I love the idea of this happening, I am obsessed at the moment with the Cast Recording, it is fantastic! Sidenote: could you capital letter the "w" in the title, my OCD will end up going insane haha! (sorry to be a pain!) How do I do that I'm so sorry to be a pain.
Go onto "edit" your first comment, then you can edit the title.

Obviously American theatre, as witnessed in the Tony Awards has been overshadowed by one musical, but listening to both that cast recording and this one, Waitress has the best individual song.
So therefore look forward to this coming over.

Oh how funny, if this does open in the Spring of 2017 as hoped, it will be up against Hamilton again!

I will give it another listen I struggled with it first time round. Which song is its best moment?

I will give it another listen I struggled with it first time round. Which song is its best moment? One of my current favourite musical songs, such a beautiful song and such an emotional performance. It made me cry when she performed it on the Tony's. I'd love Jessie to come over with the show too, hopefully she will be in talks.

It is a good song. What sort of theatre would suit?

It is a good song. What sort of theatre would suit? I think it needs quite an intimate space I'd say, it's in one of the smaller houses on Broadway.

The Brooks Atkinson is 1069 seats so I'd say somewhere like the Gielgud, Noel Coward or at a pinch The Harold Pinter. It's a shame The Girls is going to the Phoenix as that would've been a great theatre for Waitress.

The physical cast recording has still not been released (I did preorder it on amazon.com - 8th July), but judging by their Tony performance, I'm not in a rush to see this show.

I've been listening to the recording on and off on Spotify, and have really been enjoying it. This is despite it being quite a pop-orientated score. I would definitely have a look at this if it were to come over.
Speaking of the Tony Awards, is there anyway to watch the different performances? Barring the opening number, nothing seems available on YouTube, which is surprising. There also seems little in the way of acceptance speeches.

If you google Just Jared, the top link, has pretty comprehensive coverage of the Tonys including videos of all the performances.

I like the cast recording. Having said that, you can tell that the composer is a novice when it comes to musicals. There's clearly a lot more craft and effort put into the Jenna songs than the songs by other characters. The overall experience in the theatre could be different, but judging by the cast recording alone, the Jenna songs are a bit more on a league of their own.

I wouldn't be at all surprised now if this came over, it has just had its highest grossing week ever at $1,100,048.00, third $1,000,000.00 week in a row and fourth overall $1,000,000.00 week. It just seems to be going from strength to strength!

I really hope they will find a theatre, I think it would do well in the West End, it's just a very approachable show with great music. Though I do think Jessie Mueller plays a big part in the succes, she's just unreal. So I'm interested to see how that will work out here as I don't think she will come over.. Any super early casting ideas? I think Rachel Tucker could be an amazing Jenna!

Really did not enjoy this. It's got a good score, and Mueller is great, but it's a bland and flavourless show.

The character needs a certain gravitas to her, and utter despair of life and love from years of abuse- those three are so young, and lack the life experience/ acting maturity to carrie the role I think. (also with the book being so dull, a really strong actress is needed to elevate the material a few times over- Jessie Mueller is a revelation on B'way right now.. I'd prefer a stronger actress to a big voice)

How about Natasha J Barnes? Clearly the interest is there, she has the talent for it and it would be a great leading role for her to go onto after Funny Girl!

Someone said on here the success of the show is down to casting Jessie Mueller, which I dont doubt, also this week they announced the closure of Shuffle Along ecause of the unavailability of the excellent Audra McDonald. Isn't refreshing that Broadway stars are attracting peole to theatre and people want to see great performances and be entertained by their craft from theses stars, so refreshing they aren't from television and movies and some of the time cannot act, hence stories of ear pieces, strolls to the water cooler or macbooks with lines being fed.
I think it is great, I also think Sara Barellies is too.

I agree, it is so great that Broadway stars are still viable and a draw for audiences, to a point even of having to close a show because a Broadway star is leaving, it is really impressive! I must say, I am intrigued to see what becomes of Waitress once Jessie leaves. They are going to have to be so smart with their casting!

It's the kind of show that someone of Sheridan Smith's calibre should open when it comes to London. It will need a star, because the show itself is no star.

Hmm, I could be wrong here but I think the draw was more Sara Barellies than Jessie. Sara has been promoting the show heavily to her fans since before it opened and even had that album of her singing the songs. I also think the colourful, upbeat marketing helps. I didn't know of Jessie until Beautiful and I follow Broadway theatre fairly closely, so I don't see why tourists would know her name, especially as she doesn't do any TV or film. Sure, having a Tony winner as the lead tends to bode well but I don't think this is similar to Audra, who I think has managed to make herself a star from theatre alone which is great in this day and age. That's to be expected though considering Audra has been doing Broadway for much longer and has the most Tonys for acting out of anyone. I'm not expecting to see a huge drop for Waitress after Jessie leaves to be honest. This is not to take away from her performance which is wonderful.

I agree, it's predominantly a Sara Barellies thing, though having Jessie Mueller gave it some credibility. And as for the show itself, I thought it had lots of touches of great pop craftsmanship in the lyrics, but I was less enthralled by the score and rather actively disliked the ending. Mainly, I came away hoping Barellies tries her hand at another show in the future as she's a rare songwriting talent.

Yep yep agree with all this- i think Sara was more of a draw than Jessie (who I adore, so that's nothing to say of her), and also that while the score had a few gems (Ogie's song and She Used to be Mine) but as a whole it sounded like one long song, reptitve and borderline boring (and the book didn't help)- but I think it was a great first attempt and hopefully Sara won't be scared to try her hand at a musical again in the future. That said about Jessie- I think marketing her in London as "Tony winning actress Jessie Mueller" could be a draw for British audiences, even if no one has heard of her before (hint hint PLEASE bring Jessie over)
