Been mulling on this for a while. I'm intrigued by it but some slight trepidation having never seen/studied Othello and being not too Shakespeare literate.
I feel like you'd really get it if you knew both pieces well, but not sure how it would translate to people like me. Likely to give it a go though.

Thanks for that review. So it is not really a mash-up as was promised but just short versions of each play done sequentially with the same cast ? No different in concept to John Barton’s RSC production of Titus Andronicus and Two Gentlemen of Verona in one evening. I thought it was going to somehow do the plays simultaneously by combining scenes and characters which would have been far more interesting. |

That was the impression I had too, but no it is just the two played sequentially by the same cast in the same costume. There is a subtle moment of direction involving the handkerchief in Macbeth and a concluding scene from Othello at the end to tie the two together. Although those who know the works better may be able to correct me if I'm wrong. |

The edited Othello worked well with the shifted focus on Desdemona and Emilia, the viciousness of the behaviour of their husbands was shocking at times.
The Macbeth worked less well and not as simple to decipher the shifted focus and came over as an introduction to Macbeth.
If interested the £15 front row seats are a steal and last night was further enhanced by having a ‘really nice person in the next seat’
