Saw the show tonight in Birmingham. Having seen it 5 times on the West End already I wasn't planning to see this, but called up the Hipp this morning and was offered some 'producer seats' at a rate of £30 as it was day of performance and they had only just been released.
I must say I was a bit shocked at the beginning when they didnt have the kids. I understand why, it must be a logistical nightmare to get kids from different cities or bring kids on tour. Charlie wears some kind of American college jacket, not sure many of those are worn in Northampton!
Other subtle things were changed. There were no hanging photos of the previous owners of Price and Son, which is a shame as I think its a really heartwarming moment after Mr Price dies when the lights shine bright on the photo of him hanging from the ceiling, which I think is a super touching moment. It also meant Charlie always had these photos of his ancestors looking over him the whole show which must make all his choices so much harder. I don't know if this is something cut out of the tour entirely or just removed for this venue (possibly due to lack of fly bars in this venue - who knows).
Kayi Ushe is a great Lola, and I'd say on par with Matt Henry. I think Demitri Lampra is the best Don I've seen for the acting side. As with all tours its always a bit jarring as to the lack of middle aged and above actors, so almost all the staff members of the factory look incredibly young for the roles (included Mr Price and George).
The Angels were good fun and got massive cheers tonight.
Couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something has changed with the way the Milan stage manager is performed, and it didnt quite work. I dont think any of the lines received much of a laugh compared to London which had the audience in tears.

I saw it early on in the tour and came away underwhelmed too esp with young Charlie and Lola at the beginning ... lost that emotional connection for me the moment at the end when they run to their dads at the end .... saw it once in USA which was ok then 5 times in west end which blew me away loved it ! But this tour just didn’t seem as good 😊😊

The tour is a watered down vapid shadow of the West End version.Very disappointed with it when I saw it.Felt that most performances were being ‘phoned in’ and it never caught fire.

I actually am in the minority and prefer the touring cast.

I never saw the London production so I’ll never know what I missed! Kayi Ushe is an amazing Lola though I think.

Seeing this on Saturday night at Birmingham hippodrome hope I'm not going to be too disappointed as I've already seen it many times in the West End. I'm going to try stop myself from comparing the shows while I'm there and just enjoy it for what it is.

Go with an open mind but you will notice the differences I’m sure .... the glaringly obvious is no young Lola or Charlie for me it just ripped any emotion out of it esp in the finale

I really can see this coming back to the West End after its tour at some point, similar to how The Bodyguard did. It would work well in a smaller theatre too

It was here for quite a while, long enough for most people to see it if they wanted it. And now it's toured there isn't much of an untapped audience

Also I know many who have seen it 40 50 60 times and some over a hundred times. I would love it to come back its my uplifting feel good musical

Well I saw this on Saturday night at the Birmingham Hippodrome. I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as the previous 4 times in London. I've always sat front row for this show and generally prefer front stalls but the tickets were a present and booked for middle circle. I had no emotional attachment to the show as previously but this may be due to where we were seated.
As previously said by others not having the young Lola and Charlie did make a difference. Charlie wearing the bassball jacket and then taking it off to represent the older Charlie made no sense and doubt everyone in the theatre even noticed or could relate to it. For the nursing home scene you couldn't read the board from where we were seated not once was it in the spotlight to help be able to read it. Such a shame for those who had never seen the show before. I thought Lola was amazing and on par with Matt Henry. Don too was excellent. Personally from where we were sitting Charlie looked far too young. Lauren was okay but previously you could feel the connection between her and Charlie but for me this time it didn't happen. The angels were a bit lack lustre certainly didn't have the same energy. Maybe not being close to the stage made all the difference. The show was sold out there was a very slow standing ovation mostly everyone only standing when Charlie and Lola appeared.
The seats in the middle circle are very tight with very little legroom. I'm 5'8 and it wasn't comfortable.

At ATG theatres, the house programme (cast information, brief history of the show) is £4, and with Kinky Boots, they do a special souvenir brochure which has production photos and interviews in it, which is £7.

I saw this last night in Aberdeen - with reservations after the comments on here regarding the kids etc. Yes, there was a bit of emotion missing without the kids and the beginning wasn't as good as the London production but overall, I LOVED this cast. Charlie and Lola were absolutely fantastic! The Aberdeen audience took a while to warm up but by the end they gave it a full standing ovation. One comment I have is that the accents are much more authentic than the times I saw it in London - so much so that my friend who came with me struggled to catch a lot of the dialogue. However, not a bad thing. I think the band may be scaled down, it sounded very synthesised and base-heavy to be honest and I reckon they could have played a track. I still love it though, well worth a trip if it comes to a town near you.

I was a bit worried as a couple of friends who went on the first night (of a two week run) said they thought it was very amateurish. the lighting was all over the place and actually left at the interval. Move on to this week and I couldn't see any of the problems she encountered, in fact, I thought the first half was better than the second and the audience loved it. Standing ovations, whooping and cheering. Lola and Charlie. Just wow!

Selling terribly in Dublin, was looking at a matinee for next Thurday- about 20% of the seats sold.
Wonder what price they'd offer you if you rang the day of.

They have two weekday Matinees next week. The Tuesday matinee has sold slightly better but I am not sure why they thought two weekday matinees was a good idea in such a big theatre. School holidays are over, schools are back, third level repeat exams and orientation is beginning for most people and work has resumed properly for most people. Not sure who they thought were going to fill two weekday matinees.

Went to see this in Southampton today.
It never really interested me when it was on in the West End so I never bothered to go but now I really regret that decision, I really enjoyed it.
There were a couple of microphone/sound issues which was a bit annoying so I missed a few lines from a couple of characters when their mics cut out.
A woman walking out of the theatre behind me said she'd been crying at it... didn't find it particularly emotional, is that just me?

I assume the "kids go free" offer for Blackpool isn't applicable to a 17 year old?

Like many shows, I think it depends on your experience. I can't watch Kinky Boots without crying my way through the second half of act two, but that's largely because my dad died a few years ago and when Charlie starts lashing out at everyone because he's grieving I relate. The scene outside the factory with Lauren gets me every time. I can see why someone else might not have that reaction, though.

Caught this at Blackpool Opera House this evening!
First time I’ve seen the show and I loved it! Great fun, feel good musical with a message of acceptance!
Top notch show with a fantastic cast - not a weak link there - which filled the vast Opera House stage.
Glad I went! Came out beaming! And the small group I went with love it too.
Bargain seats in Row H of the Stalls for £25!

Can't fault Bradfordians. They tell it like it is.
Amazed there are now coffee shops though!

Its not selling amazing in Bradford either so does anyone know any discount codes flying round? I might book the last row of the upper circle for £22 and move down in the upper circle. Do you think the tour is a good representation of what the west end production is because ive never seen it
