A lot of people don't actually consider Disney movies to be musicals. Even though the characters burst into song on the regular in a thoroughly non-diegetic way, people see no hypocrisy in talking about how much they love Disney and how much they hate musicals.
According to the press release (that took me far too long to dig out), Pinocchio will be "on sale until 7th April". I presume this wording means they're currently planning an extension, as "continuing in the repertoire" seems to be their code for "closing on this date".

I quite like the logo for this, although it does have a Finding Neverland meets Come From Away vibe to it. I dislike how infrequently the national incorporate the show's title into the logo... Small and petty but my word document* of theatre trips relies on consistency.
* Or rather, I do...

I hate their website. It's so cluttered, forces you to scroll down at all times and I always get confused by its (lack) of information. How long is the run? Looking at the website, it begins previews December 1st, and has a Captioned Performance booked for March 28th so it will run until at least March 31st.

The press release also lists the character's names for the company, unlike the website.
Joe Idris-Roberts as Pinocchio Audrey Brisson as Jiminy Cricket Annette McLaughlin as Blue Lady David Langham as The Fox David Kirkbride as Coachman Dawn Sievewright as Lampy Chris Jarman as Stromboli
with the company completed by Stuart Angell, Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge, Stephanie Bron, James Charlton, Rebecca Jayne-Davies, Sarah Kameela Impey, Anabel Kutay, Michael Lin, Jack North, Clemmie Sveaas, Michael Taibi, Scarlet Wilderink and Jack Wolfe.
Just missing out on Gepetto, and unless they're part of the company The Cat (sidekick to The Fox).

I wonder if Gepetto is going to be a name hence why it hasn't been announced

A lot of people don't actually consider Disney movies to be musicals. Even though the characters burst into song on the regular in a thoroughly non-diegetic way, people see no hypocrisy in talking about how much they love Disney and how much they hate musicals. I understand what you mean, it's ridiculous how they don't realise that Disney films are just as musical-like as anything else. But my original point regarding this show was that it doesn't look like the National are marketing it as a new musical like Disney's other stage musicals, but rather it is just a new "play with (the Disney) songs". Follies, A Pacifist's Guide to the War On Cancer and wonder.land all clearly credited the music, lyric and book writers, however Pinocchio is just credited as "...by Dennis Kelly, with songs and score from the Walt Disney film by...". Also there is just no general mention of it being a musical anywhere on the NT site. I guess we won't know until it opens whether it is a "full musical" with new material (that has been given - and I don't like using this term, but they really did nail it - the "Mary Poppins treatment") or a "play with (just the Disney) songs", but if it is the latter I think it may have been a bit of a missed opportunity, considering how the National have recently said they are starting to support new musicals.

Bought a pair of £15 front row tickets too, for a Friday night. Such a bargain... but only dependant on one thing. How high is the stage?!?

Are you an advance member or higher, though anthony40 ? Public booking isn't open yet. Hmm, maybe that's the reason. When does public booking open?

It was due to be today but the website had a nervous breakdown and they haven't sent out revised dates yet. Watch this space, I guess!

Got 6 decent seats for the last performance before Christmas in the Amex presale today - looks like there's loads of availability across the run still! The Amex presale would not work at all in Safari on my Mac, just continually came up with the message 'something went wrong' whenever I put in the first 4 digits of my card to unlock the presale. It worked fine in Chrome though.

Martin Lowe is an incredibly talented musician and shaper of musical theatre material. I would expect him to do a fantastic job.

The 'theater' is small? Are you serious? I suppose that the Lyttelton is a little smaller than the Biggerwun at the National Theatre.

Compared to the Olivier, it is smaller. Olivier 1150...Lytelton 890. And Barnaby...no need to be nasty and rude

Is it a musical? "Tomato-tomayto" people play semantics over such things but personally I think it's a musical- the music is so central to the production.
"Disney-fied"- again for some this is a compliment, for some it is an insult. If you mean is it simplified, then no. If you mean, has a huge amount of attention to detail been given to creating a magical experience, then yes.
To be clear, I'm not working on this particular show. People will be able to follow my frank assessment of some recent NT productions. But from what I've heard, this is going to be a massive hit. I certainly hope so. Of course a lot can get lost in a rehearsal room, but it certainly has the potential to be amazing.
