A chorus line felt quite dated, and what people who hate musicals think musicals are

Where did the choreo for The One come from? It wasn’t anything like I remember from seeing ACL at The Curve. A one-off for this performance, I imagine, so they had something that looked good on TV. I doubt many of those dancers will be on the tour. Didn’t I hear Jason Manford plugging the tour before the number though? I was skipping a lot of his twaddle but I thought I heard that. In which case people might reasonably expect to see something on the tour that vaguely resembles what was shown last night. In the subject of JM… someone different next year please!

Having just looked at the performance last night and the production trailer they released the very end of the performance last night does have the same choreography that was in the trailer so it looks like it was the same as it was originally

If not him it would probably be Ball. Not that many name presenters with links to musical theatre. I thought JM was completely drowned out during the opening. There's something about JM that I just don't like/don't trust but can't out my finger on it. There's a fakeness there

If they did replace JM, they'd probably go for Michael Ball, although with Jason being Northern and it being held in Manchester, it makes sense they use him. I think his Turkey Teeth don't help with the fakeness!

Let’s just put Wadders up for everything.

Hannah Waddingham. Let’s just put Wadders up for everything. She's becoming a bit of a parody of herself, but yeah she would be better than JM for sure

Very underwhelmed by Ivano’s Jamie. Where is the heart and the strength? Looked like some weak pop performance. Looked the part, but his diction was poor , certainly on this showing, I’ve not seen him on stage , but then I found Layton to have poor diction in performance.

I knew very little about Hadestown before I booked to see it in March, but really looking forward to seeing GHY on stage again. She's doing so well especially since she is so new to the scene.

First time seeing a performance from Mrs Doubtfire. Christ that was dreadful Incredibly fussy and confusing excerpt, very difficult to follow what was going on at times. Didn’t make me want to see it, yet it’s having a good run. I wonder how many theatre goers or tv viewers outside the states would appreciate the reference to and representation of Julia Childs ? I know many more will now, given Sarah Lancashire’s brilliant performance , but I would think Julia Childs is still unknown to many .

Whilst I think it's brilliant to see musical theatre on mainstream TV on a Saturday night, having one song from each show "out of context" never really sells it that well for me. Some shows it's easier than others (Phantom for example) but there have been many shows I've seen one performance of (on some TV show) and I've thought it didn't look good at all, but then when I've gone to the show I've really, really enjoyed it.

Can someone who saw the show live say if any of the featured shows were omitted from the TV broadcast ?

It's not just the shows shown that benefit, it reminds everyone of the joy of theatre so they check out what's on local to them.

She sounds so distant and honestly baked out her mind in every interview ever since taking up the role. Appreciate it's a heavy part to play but...damn.

She's always been like that. Her Norma as just a slightly exaggerated version of her.

Maybe method acting isn't entirely accurate but she feels completely different in how she talks and carries herself since becoming Norma. It's like she forgot to switch it off.

I absolutely loved this number on stage but didn’t think it came across well at all last night. Marcus Collins was especially weak I thought, almost jittery and lacking in effort.

The man playing Daniel in Mrs Doubtfire looks so much like Jack Lemmon he’ll be a shoe-in if/when Some Like It Hot transfers. Also King George’s performer looks a lot like our current King Charles which was a very strange experience to see 😆

The Hadestown number would never make me book for that. No context, no idea. Not interested. Sorry! I’ve got a ticket but this didn’t sell it for me and I feel like I may return it

Very underwhelmed by Ivano’s Jamie. Where is the heart and the strength? Looked like some weak pop performance. It always does to me, no matter who is in the role they always seem to struggle vocally Just watching the show and came on to post this. Is that song an especially hard sing? It’s the song they always use from the show but whoever is singing Jamie just seems to lack ooompf.

I enjoyed the Grease medley and thought it was a good way to end the show (even though I’ve never been a fan of the stage version). Phantom was good too but overall no great standouts to me. Nice to have musical theatre on primetime tv though and hopefully it will make people check out what’s on at their local theatres 😊

How excruciating is this to watch on a scale of 1-10?
Everything about it sounds hideous.. Alfie Boe… Jason Manford… But I’m also a little intrigued

John McCrea at the Crucible Sheffield was perfection. It’s been watered down since then to stunt casting, Michelle Visage and Bianca Del Rio and performers who have “sass” but no heart (Layton Williams I’m looking at you) I’ll never go and see it again, it’s too disappointing and a massive stretch from the incredible original we saw in Sheffield which connected with so many. I totally agree I saw the original run in Sheffield and was blown away by it …and also the original west end run . It’s has seemed the last few tours etc have been tweaked and tweaked and had some questionable casting choices ….. I’ve seen the show around 12 times …. But after seeing Layton on tour .. it put the nail in the coffin for me … ruined every love I had for this show …… I was hoping the new casting would help me fall in love with the show again but after seeing it on tv 📺 hmmmmm think I’ll give it a miss ….

Having enjoyed the tv show, thought I'd listen to the Radio 2 broadcast to lighten this morning's tram journey. However I've had to turn off after 30 mins, the backstage shrieking and screaming from Lucie Jones and Marisha Wallace is unbearable, their interview with Nicole the worst.
