New production of Amadeus as part of the Sydney Opera House' 50th celebration season, being staged in the newly renovated Concert Hall.
Michael Sheen as Salieri , with local actors Rahel Romahn and Lily Balatincz as Amadeus and Constance, and featuring a live orchestra.
Tickets are surprisingly pricey! ($255 top price for a Friday/Saturday. Most drama tickets in Sydney top out at around $160 - musicals can be a bit more)

Wow! I saw Sheen as Wolfgang as a young man, opposite Suchet. What a treat it would be to see him as Salieri!

Posted in the Australian thread before I noticed this one but essentially Michael Sheen was sensational but the rest of the production looked a little underpowered as a result.

Saw this last night from the cheap(ish) seats. I was concerned when they announced the venue that the cast would be rattling around on the huge concert hall stage, but I needn't have worried. Everything is played large, from the gorgeous costumes to the monumental staircase that forms the central focus of the stage. There is no mistaking that this is the Michael Sheen Show, I just wish I had been sat closer to see his facial expressions . His transformation from old man to young and back with the simple donning of a rather fabulous robe was sensational. Unfortunately I was surrounded by people checking their phones every 20 minutes, a chair kicker behind, and a group whose phones went off (yes, multiple offenders) who then needed to have a chat about their phones going off DURING THE PERFORMANCE !

Yes I was lucky to have fantastic seats as a Christmas present and Sheen was mesmerising.
His reactions to Mozarts music or when Mozart discussed his conception of music expressed so much about the conflict of his character without a single word.
