Well he seems a much better choice than a lot of the names being batted about. Hopefully they make it much less Oxbridge centred along with the new host. Rajan is a Cambridge graduate...as is Paxman and as was Bamber. I would not see him as an agent of change in that regard!

He would have no influence I'm sure, but there have been complaints for years that far too many Oxbridge colleges are featured and it should be opened up to other institutions which offer degrees.

They have broadened the range of institutions involved over the years
And there are preliminary rounds which eliminate teams that never make it to the screen
Given the fact that Oxbridge colleges are building teams from a student body of 1000 give or take compared to whole universities who are pulling from much larger populations, the success of the colleges shows the quizzing strength in depth.
It may well be that of there were 1 Oxford team and 1 Cambridge team each season, they may well dominate and that could unbalance the competition.

But out of those 3, Rajan is the only one who is not a public schools educated, so a big improvement there.

Enjoyed watching the University Challenge documentary tonight. I did not know Jenny Ryan was on it 20 years ago likewise with Mark Labbett.

I don't know much about fashion or French but I'm sure Pret a Porter doesn't mean chicken!

I'm quite jealous of the interesting mix of game shows that the UK offers. We are so lacking in the States. I'm glad YouTube and other sources can quench my thirst for Would I Lie to You and quirky offerings like Taskmaster or 8 out of 10 Cats Do Countdown.

I used to like Robert Robinson - Ask the Family, Call My Bluff, and Brain of Britain (on the wireless) - he always used to project the vague impression that he thought the whole thing was beneath him and that he was massively over-qualified for such a trivial job, but of course it was basically all he ever did. He was not well-liked by some at the BBC because of his superior manner and they put around the rumour that he employed a butler at his house in Chelsea, which may or may not have been true but you could easily have believed it.

My favourite has to be RBQ. So fiendish but even getting a couple of points on a question feels like a real achievement

Someone went home with nothing on WWTBAM because of this question?
Some online have complained it was a trick question but I think the contestant made the mistake of influencing the audience by ruling out A. I knew the answer because I know what the other three are so essentially process of elimination

Sorry to be harsh, but he deserved to go home empty handed if he didn't know the answer to such an easy question.

There was a real Corker on Tipping Point yesterday: Ben:'In which decade was Prince William born?' Contestant: '2010s?'
You couldn't make it up.
