I recall having the most delicious spaghetti with tomato sauce at Wyndham's Theatre once.
I must say though, while Carey Mulligan is NOT a sharer she is a very accurate shot with a frying pan.
Security there are very heavy handed. And not in a good way.

Big new Italian Food market has opened opposite Southwark Playhouse - apparently deli, bakery etc but also a food court doing drinks and hot food. Not sure of the opening hours, certainly looks like a good bet before a show. Blimey, that looks great. According to their twitter it is open 11am to 11pm, but currently is soft opening until September so guessing a few bits to finish off. I'm in the area tomorrow so will check it out and report back. |

Ditto their gnocchi macaroni and cheese. Only if they manage not to overcook it! It was horrible when I had it. If it is brown on top, send it back. Never been impressed with the quality of food in the Kitchen. |

Visited today. Can confirm their is some bloody delicious food on offer. There is like an Italian supermarket with fruit, dried pasta, sauces, wine etc, and the across a courtyard you have the covered food court. Had a delicious flat bread and ice cream, but hot pasta dishes, freshly made on site mozzarella selections and sandwiches were all available. They are constructing more stalls next door, so the selection should be growing soon. Worth a look in for sure. |

I have never had the feta and watermelon salad overcooked.
Had It today and delicious and a bargain for £7, you can stick the other restaurants, where the sun doesn't belong.

Ooh, the Italian foodcourt sounds really good. Must try it,
I really like Charing Cross theatre bar and restaurant - reasonable prices and doesn't taste too bad either. They even have a special Titanic menu based on an actual menu from the ship (except for the veggie options which have been adapted). Only 3 courses though (didn't they have about 12 in 1912). Also the musical is great!

So for those who have visited it, does the Italian Food Market have anywhere to sit, please? As it sounds great, but if it's another of those places which do takeaway only, or expect you to eat from a polystyrene tray with plastic cutlery while perched on a rickety bench (as at the food market just to the south of the Festival Hall), I'll stick with my d-i-y picnic habit.

I Popped in both on Saturday and Sunday to the food fair mentioned above, opposite the Southwark Playhouse.
Popped over Saturday, just beore seeing Allegro and was underwhelmed, I thought it would be like the one behind the Southbank Centre, I was in the ouside part, with only four stalls, only when I left I realised this was a lot bigger than I realised.
So passing with Mum on Sunday, I had another look and was impressed by the central food court, where you could buy locally produced and organic food to take home. then saw on the other side there is a inside eating area, they specialise in Italian, with gorgeous breads and traditional thin crust pizza.
Spoke to the owner who says they hope to get more stalls and open a gym and cinema there soon.
I would hope the outside area they do lovely paella and polish sausgae, when they expand.
Be interesting to see where this ends up, but in the meantime wish them all the best. I definitely with be back.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but it seemed better than starting a new one!
I'm finally over in London next week (yay!) and having visited China this spring, I'd quite like to have some (fairly) authentic Beijing dumplings somewhere to remind me of that trip. I guess Chinatown is the place to go but I frankly find it a bit overwhelming with its vast choice of eateries. So could anyone recommend a good (cheap) restaurant that does dumplings in Chinatown or somewhere in Theatreland?
