I also really like Hampstead as a space - nice foyers, mostly good sightlines and comfortable seats, not bad value, and next to a tube station. I hope they can find a model where they retain the new writing Downstairs and make upstairs more commercial.

I'm clearly in the minority on 'Blackout Songs' - I liked the first 15 minutes, the acting was great, but then it kept going round in the same circles, the question on hand - keep the addiction, have a wild time, and destroy yourself/each other, or lead 'tedious' clean lives, is a very familiar one from 'trainspotting', and there was nothing to make me care about either of the protagonists, so after a while I just wanted it to be over. Did you have a free programme on your seat? It would have helped you understand the circles.
As it's finished I'll mention it is primarily a memory piece with an emphasis on something called Korsakoff Syndrome.
oh, I understood, of course. just the structure didn't really help examine the question at the heart of the play. if it had been a play about, say, how to make amends for all the hurt you caused in your alcoholic years, when you can't remember any of it correctly, this might be the right structure. but a decision on whether to choose life, or not, probably works better in a linear structure...

Weren't Hampstead in the doldrums before Ed Hall took over? I think they need an AD who can come up with programming to entice audiences again and make the case for ACE funding again.

We are due Monday which is the performance after. Thanks! The email only mentioned 'unforeseen circumstances' - and that the first preview will now be Monday 19th so you should be fine!
