Brian Cox has a new autobiography out "Putting the Rabbit in the Hat" which sounds somewhat forthright in its comments on his acting colleagues. Anyway, there's always been lots of anecdotes around about Michael Gambon and Cox repeats a few. The usual thrust of the anecdotes is that Gambon is pleasingly eccentric but others suggest to me that he's really horrible. Here's one of each.
Michael Gambon has got a dark interior. Plastered on his dressing room mirror are photos from Robert de Niro signed "Dear Mike, I admire your work, love always, Bob" that Gambon had written and sent to himself.
Gambon once took the actor Terence Rigby up in a two-seater aircraft, supposedly to cure his fear of flying, and then pretended to have a heart attack.
