Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs. Ooo this sounds good. Steep prices for first 3 rows, then £76 and £56 for stalls. I mean, you'd have to have stalls seats for this, wouldn't you!

We had our stalls seats by 9.15 this morning.
Me and my friend were bouncing up and down when we saw Alan's tweet at the beginning of the week. Been a massive Alan fan since the mid 90s, so can't wait.

Just bought a ticket at the Brighton Dome for this for £24 for row C of the stalls! An absolute bargain I thought!

Somewhat behind the loop on this so seem to be stuck with £220 VIP tickets in the front stalls or cheaper tickets a long way back.
Was first a fan of Alan Cumming in his Victor and Barry days (saw them numerous times at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow when I was a student). Have followed his career with interest, but not sure I'm up to £220 for this. Enjoyed his revue at the Vaudeville a few years back and he did a meet & greet there for the National AIDS Trust which I was happy to pay for. Since then he's annoyed me with his politics (campaigning on Scottish independence talking about "us" when he has legally renounced his UK nationality) - a bit of a professional Scotsman. I've downloaded the Sappy Songs album and I haven't listened to it through yet but I don't like his interpretation of the couple of songs I have heard - "Mother Glasgow" by Michael Marra is one of my favourite songs but I find AC's interpretation over-mannered, and "The Climb" feels like a staircase rather than Everest.
Might stay at home with my V&B tapes. Nothing will ever beat "Kelvinside Man" ("We're known as the trendy thespians/Some of our best friends are less/Well known than us".
Or am I just trying to justify not spending the money?

I'm a knob, got tix for Funny Girl last night same date. I *may* have 2 row B stalls for sale for the Palladium. At no freak out cost. (£73.40 I think, each). May nip to Brighton instead ..

I saw him a few years back (2009 - I Bought a Blue Car) . Just him and a piano player and pretty good it was too: bought the CD in fact, and as I recall very entertaining stories to boot.
That was pre X-Men/The Good Wife so the theatre was only about three quarters full and even good tickets weren't too expensive.

What a great night on Saturday. Funny, moving and great song choices. I had no idea that he has such a strong voice. Let's hope he does more of theses shows.
