Good news for Sydney as the Trafalgar Entertainment Group has won the tender for a 55 year lease of the Theatre Royal.
The theatre has been dark since 2016.
There has been a theatre on the site since 1875, and it was a condition of the sale of the site to developers in the 1960's that the theatre be included in the new development. However, the deeds failed to stipulate that the theatre had to actually be operational, and the current owners used this loophole to close it down four years ago.
