One I can comment on.
Have bumped into Simon Russell Beale numerous times as he often frequents the Theatre and and had to do a double take at Southwark Little Theatre for a weekday matinee of a play I have long forgotten.
Only spoken the once as always when I happenstance upon an actor I usually just give a nod of recognition and walk on, I was in Stratford Upon Avon for a weekday matinee and did my nod in the space by the Bear and he acknowledged and we had a small conversation, it was just before the Lehman Brothers was about to start rehearsals and I asked him how it was going and he just said ask me again when we have a text.

My parents were at a party with Brian Blessed once, back when he was into mountaineering, and came along to his guide's birthday party. I'd totally forgotten about it. My mum had no idea who he was, and came home saying 'who on earth was that awful loud man who shouted all night and was an arrogant arse?'. She was not impressed.

Today's couple of names are Princess Diana Judi Dench Finally!! Not Diana (thank god) but Judi!!! I met her at the stage door of Amy’s View. I used to live in Germany with the forces and part of our theatre studies class came to UK to see some shows. When we met her I informed her we had come all the way from Germany to see her she replied, in that friendly flirty way that she has ‘oh, u ARE a liar’!!! Weirdly as we walked back to Waterloo I found by the side of the road the understudy to Judi’s working script fro Amy’s View with all the lines highlighted and everything!! What a wonderfully queer day it was! (I know this was a stage door encounter which may not really count but my exposure to famous people is quite often limited to back alleys)

Today's couple of names are Princess Diana Judi Dench It’s a great disappointment to me that I’ve never run into Dame Judi at our local Waitrose (I don’t know how often she goes there now, but when I was younger she shopped there fairly frequently)

I think currently she dresses as an easter bunny. Well she was on her recent video message.

Today's couple of names are Princess Diana Judi Dench I've come across both.
Dench used to live on Northside, Wandsworth Common with husband Michael Williams, at least they did in the late 80s and into the 90s. Many will know Williams died in 2001. Around then, Judi was also semi-regular at the Quaker Meeting House in Wandsworth (for reference, about the same time the E rave scene hadn't emerged from the 4 or 5 spots it had started in). I was an undergrad and worked at their local minicab office. They often phoned to get a cab for a guest and I went to their house a few dozen times - absolutely no idea who I was driving. Different priorities at the time .. they were always lovely though. In my mind I think Williams opened the door most often and was always warm. Judi would be in hostess mode.
Diana I used to see in Chelsea, about dozen times or so. She used a gym along from Fulham Harbour and, having somehow given the paps the slip, would drive over to Old Church Street to visit Manolo Blahnik's shop. Thing that might surprise peple about Diana is she was world class at parallel parking - I can see her now pulling up quite abruptly in the BMW with the sun roof down, wearing shades, and then zoom, backwards at speed into a parking space. Really impressive. Never any security, at least that you could see.
I also have a second type of memory of her; by accident of timing, walking a few steps behind her - just her and me on Paultons Street (heading to the square), and I'm trying to decide if she is bow-legged .. she's wearing quite high heels and I just can't work out if it's the heels or her ... it was a very pleasant late morning, like in late Spring. Absolutely dolled-up. Not sure she was off shopping, more likely visiting.
I often wondered how she gave the paps the slip at the gym. In a funny way you almost couldn't/can't help but wonder if she was always alone.

I met Judi Dench at a charity event for something I belong to that she was patron of. I did approach her just to say I thought she was wonderful but I think it was mutually beneficial, I was holding a sausage roll at the time and she was very keen to know where I'd got it from 😊

I was on a school art trip to a circus. We were going to sketch the animals in their cages in the interval. Then Princess Di came in with her boys and we were told we couldn't go back stage (is that the right term for a circus?) 'cos William and Harry were going instead. Bah humbug.
Same school, we were waiting to cross the road after visiting Regents Park - teachers at the front. A limo turned the corner and passed us. If the window was open I could have touched the Queen. Mind you the boys were more excited the time we were in Regents Park and the Manchester City team jogged down the path past us.

I'm a bit behind the program but I have had a Simon Russell Beale-adjacent experience. I sat next to his father and step-mother at a performance at the Almeida (I think it was the 'Tragedy of King Richard II'... the one where they tossed buckets of mud around). His step-mother struck up a conversation since I was solo and mentioned they were there to see her husband's son. Both were obviously quite proud.

I sat next to Julie Walters during a performance of Wicked many moons ago. I'm a HUGE fan so I could barely concentrate on the show, and couldn't believe my luck when she spoke to me at the interval because she saw I was sitting on my own. All I could could get out my mouth was 'our birthdays are on the same day'. Hahahaha! She was lovely though, which was a big relief to me.....never meet your idols and all that.
