Versatile actor who was the first Mordred on the London stage in Camelot, went on to do movies aimed at young audiences like "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" and had a long stage, screen and tv career.
Pretty sure I saw him in more plays but particularly remember him in the original production of Michael Frayn's hilarious "Alarms and Excursions" - with a great cast which included Felicity Kendal, Josie Lawrence and Robert Bathurst.
RIP.

He was a versatile actor and had a longish career. However the typically lazy bbc headline him as "fawlty towers" actor!!!

My very first intro to theatre (apart from Panto) was Nicky Henson as Petrucio and Susan Hampshire as Katharina in Taming of the Shrew, Shaw Theatre on 5 November 1974. We were doing it for O Level (GSCE's for you young'uns). Dull and dusty words come to life on stage.

I remember when he was taken ill while at the RSC in 1985 - his role in Troilus had to be taken over by Alun Armstrong. I think since then he’d struggled on and off with his health. Very sad.
