This has been touring the country and I caught Monday night's performance in Croydon.
I went in without knowing much about it. It was one of those shows from when I'd booked a load of (relatively) cheap tickets at the same time from nights I was going to be in the area.
As I've said before, the front row has an excellent view. I actually had most of this row (indeed the first few rows) to myself. There were about 50 people in, but they chose to sit further back, not sure why (especially as this is a play, so the voices are not mic'd).
I thought this was excellent. It's based on a book, subsequently made into a film, but I hadn't read of watched this. It previously ran at the Royal Exchange in Manchester and was well received. It's set around the period of World War 2, with a timeline moving backwards, as well as looking at LGBTQ issues.
The cast of eight are strong, with several playing multiple roles. And there's a decent set for a touring production, which really helps to set the atmosphere for the time period.
There are seats available for Croydon for the rest of the week (an easy trip from London and a short walk from East Croydon station). Worth a visit.
