I'm in NY for a few days later this month and am not sure what to catch while I'm there. Are there any "must-sees" on at the moment? Any recommendations are hugely appreciated!

Probably Soft Power at the Public since it seems like a wild, weird romp. Also if you want something smaller, I suggest Robbie Rozelle's talk/variety show at 54 Below (Robbie is a friend, but I'm not just plugging his show because of that!) 54below.com/events/tuesdays-at-54/

I would echo Soft Power and add The Sound Inside with Mary Louise-Parker. Linda Vista by Tracy Letts also has decent buzz, as well as some detractors. You can find discounts for both plays at either broadwaybox.com or theatremania.com.

Good to hear a recommendation for The Sound Inside - planning to see that at the end of my current work trip. It's available as a TodayTix rush as well as is Soft Power. I saw The Rose Tattoo with Marisa Tomei the other day which was excellent - also through TodayTix rush.

I saw Sound Inside and was not impressed. Only 90 minutes but wanted to leave after the first 30.
I would recommend Moulin Rouge. You can get $50 standing from if you have time to wait in line. they are released around 2pm. Then walk down to empty seats from greedy resellers that aren't sold.
I can't think of anything else that is a must see. Slave Play was unique but flat. Maybe Freestyle Love Supreme which is unique and smart.

I think someone said on here you can tip Broadway ushers to get a better seat. Does that apply to upgrading from standing to seated? I have only seen this work in Las Vegas. I feel like the rules might be a lot more strict here.

The Sound Inside has an 82 on Show Score, so it is not resonating with everyone, but those who like it, really like it. I found Freestyle overpriced and a bit boring, but your mileage might vary. I wouldn't use up a slot for it though given all the other great Broadway options right now.
Slave Play certainly is worth considering if you want a unique experience and has people talking. I have not seen the new Forbidden Broadway, but that usually is a good filler.

I saw "The Sound Inside" on Wednesday - enjoyed it a lot although it is a small-scale piece (2 hander, 90 minutes, minimal although very effective staging) - the sort of thing you might see in London somewhere like Hampstead or the Donmar. It is available easily through the TodayTix rush (which I guess implies it's not selling too well?) so you can see it for $42. For both that and Rose Tattoo, the rush seats were in the front mezzanine. Unlike in the UK you don't find out where your rush seat is until you pick the ticket up.
Soft Power seems to be selling very well - some dates look to be sold out and the rush tickets go instantly. So don't get your hopes up for that one!
Also available easily on todaytix rush (ie try later in the day and they are still available) are Linda Vista and Height of the Storm.
Toss up tomorrow night between Slave Play and Oklahoma from tkts, I think, unless someone has a better suggestion, particularly for Off or Off Off Broadway!
