Watched this yesterday at the Edinburgh Playhouse, my first time at that venue since shutdown. Decided to do a double show day of it just to make the most of theatre being back. I forgot just how awful the seats there are. My legs were digging into the row in front (row P stalls) and just not nice: for evening I was row P dress circle which was actually really good! More legroom and a better view overall of the show.
Really enjoyed it! Not the strongest piece of musical theatre but it’s a fun night out and has some great songs. Very strong cast too - was pleasantly surprised by Louise as I never saw her last tour. Great dancer and singer. Acting on the weak side but that’s understandable as she’s more experienced in the other disciplines. Vivian was simply stunning as Judy. Where has she been hiding all this time? Such a fantastic performer, her voice really filled the theatre in GOASO. Stephanie was really funny as Doralee and had a great voice.
So so glad that theatre is back, hopefully for good this time.

Caught the tour yesterday in Wimbledon, with one of those tickets which had been rescheduled multiple times. A great front row seat and the audience was well-behaved, although I was one of very few people wearing a mask. This is one of the theatres that said they would check Covid-19 passes but didn't.
Pretty much sold out, including the red carpet entrance for the press (and the side entrance for those of us who are less important).
Most of the cast were the same as when I last saw this in 2019, although they obviously having been on tour all that time.
Louise Redknapp remains excellent and is still the big star. Perfect the role.
There is some new eye candy with Clayton Rosa and the continuing Ricardo Spriggs.
All of the cast really throw themselves into this one. Let's face it, this isn't ever going to be judged as the best musical in the world, but it is a lot of fun. And great to see a show selling well on tour as that isn't always the case right now.

Saw the matinee in Sunderland today. Fair few seats unsold. Gallery closed. Audience were very muted for most of the gags where I was sat in the Upper Circle.
I had seen it previously in London. I quite enjoyed it but it dragged in places. A few songs too many perhaps.
I thought the cast were pretty good. Louise really surprised me and the other leads put in good performances. Sean was great.
Well worth seeing if you can get a good priced ticket. It is a bit of fun that doesn't take itself too seriously and who doesn't need a bit of that now and again.

I mean I think she'll be better than Louise! Saw Sweeney in Legally Blonde, she could belt them out but was quite broad in between numbers. I was quite looking forward to Louise but I guess were just going to miss out.

Sounds like Louise has improved because she was really not very good when I saw her in it pre covid.

Finally saw this tonight. The girl sitting next to me got tickets for her 18th birthday. She's 20 now.
Anyway, no Sweeney until Thursday - Sarah-Marie Maxwell played Violet (and was great). Lots of energy and thought they deserved a bit more from a very Tuesday night crowd.

Mater went to today's matinee. Not only was this was her first visit to the theatre for two years, it was also her first time back in the city centre.
She's not very steady on her feet these days, so I met her afterwards.
"Did you enjoy it?"
"The singing and dancing were brilliant, but I didn't reckon much to the story."
"What about Claire Sweeney?"
"She was very good."
So there we are.
Then it was home in a BMW, which was a first for me, and possibly for her too. Serves 'em right for leaving the engine running!
