My last show, yesterday, was The Messiah (Barlow, not Handel). Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it at all so that ended 2018 on a down.

Phantom, I admire you! When do you eat? Your dedication to theatre is remarkable. Oh thanks Lynn. Eating not a problem, that I do too much, sleep is a different question. I am very good at time management. Where most people attend the theatre, I am common and just rock up!!! Rory Without quoting your post as it will put all my theatre up again for a 3rd time and I think people have suffered enough. Saw Strictly Ballroom twice, because of blasted Todaytix and great offer and me forgetting how bad it was first time round.

My last show of the year was 'The Messiah' at the St James Theatre. It was supposed to have been 'Dicky Two' at the Almeida but on the night I just could not be faffed so Lesley Gusset and co it was.

Finally got a list together of highlights (and a few low ones), although I haven't yet added my usual commentary......maybe later) Very Almeida and NT heavy, there appear to have been fewer theatres with their focus this year, which is one that chimes with my personal tastes.
NEW PLAY John (NT – Dorfman) The Writer (Almeida) Dance Nation (Almeida) Home, I’m Darling (NT – Dorfman) Nine Night (NT – Dorfman) Five Easy Pieces (Campo (Ghent) – Unicorn)
PLAY REVIVAL OR ADAPTATION Summer & Smoke (Almeida) The Octoroon (NT – Dorfman) The Wild Duck (Almeida) Chekhov’s First Play (BAC) A Christmas Carol (Old Vic) Richard II (Almeida)
MUSICAL Fun Home (Young Vic) My Left/Right Foot the Musical (National Theatre Scotland/Birds of Paradise, Edinburgh) Sylvia (Zoonation – Old Vic) Company (Elliot & Harper, Gielgud) Hadestown (NT – Olivier)
PERFORMER Patsy Ferran (Summer & Smoke - Almeida) Romola Garai (The Writer –Almeida) Ken Nwosu (The Octoroon- NT, Dorfman) Ria Zmitrowicz (Dance Nation - Almeida) Edward Hogg (The Wild Duck- Almeida)
SUPPORTING PERFORMER Kaisa Hammarlund (Fun Home – Young Vic) Kevin Harvey (The Wild Duck - Almeida) Lyndsey Marshall (The Wild Duck – Almeida) Imogen Doel (The Tell Tale Heart- NT, Dorfman) Marylouise Burke (John - NT, Dorfman)
DISAPPOINTMENTS Beginning (NT – Ambassadors) Machinal (Almeida) Underground Railroad Game (Lightning Rod Special – Edinburgh/Soho) La Maladie de Mort (Bouffes du Nord – Edinburgh/Barbican)
ONE TO WATCH – Lung Theatre (for both E15 (BAC 2017) and Trojan Horse (Edinburgh 2018))
ONES MISSED & HOPE TO SEE SOON - ear for eye (Royal Court), Poet In Da Corner (Royal Court), The Watsons (Chichester), Bryony Kimmings' 'I'm a Phoenix, Bitch' would have been another but I've booked for its BAC run.

So .. looking at ticket prices my average ticket price last year was £32 - up from £20 last year but that's because it was skewed by seeing the Ring Cycle at the ROH.
