I loved the first season of this reboot and i think i cried at every episode. Yes its manipulative but i'm a sucker for a makeover show of any kind. The show is so fake and set up though... when the reboot started no one had a clue who the new fab five were, and yet every time they walked in somewhere, they were greeted like long lost friends...
Season 2 has been pretty dull so far. I know they were filmed 1 after the other, but season 2 feels more like episodes that just weren't good enough for season 1. I love Momma Tammy but the rest? Meh.... even the trans episode didnt get me crying.
Obviously Jonathan is my favourite of the Fab Five, But i often have to fast fwd through Karamo and his silk bomber jackets and advice you could get from a fortune cookie.
Got the last episode of season 2 to watch but already hoping that season 3 is better.
Anyone else watched season 2 yet?

Yes, I would completely agree with your thoughts @tbfl I was looking forward to series 2 but disappointed with it. Almost every episode seems exactly the same - find an overweight, bearded, long haired, scruffily dressed and very untidy guy and give him a haircut, trim/shave beard, new smart casual wardrobe and "make over" his messy place. It isn't rocket science and doesn't take 5 guys to do it. Interestingly the weight issues are never addressed despite having a chief as one of the guys to encourage healthy eating.
Agree too about Karamo - I quite honestly don't know what he does?

Yes I agree as well. Nowhere near as good as Season 1 and Episode 5 with Arian really pissed me off. It's was quite obvious he had some sort of underlying mental heath issues be it depression or anxiety or something and he was given a "lazy millennial" edit and the 5 guys were almost mocking him. Karamo especially came off particularly unpleasant and the result online has been loads of people saying how much of an arsehole Arian is and that he was the least deserving person of a makeover ever and none of it sits well with me. Got 2 episodes left but they do need to up their game - at the moment it's literally just exactly the same episode each episode, but they've just CGI'd someone different at the centre. All Tan talks about is a French Tuck and it's driving me crazy - Bobby builds them all an entire new house from scratch every episode and gets probably the least screen time!

Same here - I was excited to watch the new episode but I'm starting to get frustrated by them... the first two are great with Momma Tammy and that lovely marriage proposal, but the next two are very samey and not particularly moving. I too am surprised how the fab 5 are greeted like old friends, especially given how high-energy they all are - if it were me I'd be scared witless if 5 strangers bounded toward me clutching scissors, avocado and french-tucks! Antoni... bless him, he's not really there for his culinary skills, is he? Episode 1 he watched Momma cook, episode 2 was essentially buying prepared food from a shop... Jonathan continues to be my absolute favourite though... "Do you like my top? Isn't it cute? Are you obsessed with it?"

Tan just wants everyone to wear a short sleeve patterned shirt with the sleeves rolled up, Antoni is pretty but hasnt really shown anything else, and very little in terms of culinary skills. I like Bobby's home make overs but he rarely asks anyone what they might want/like and then gives everyone the same anyway. Karamo does.... something. It says he's the culture guy, but theres very little of that. Jai Rodriguez had the same role in the original cast and he didnt do much either! Jonathan makes the show for me. He seems genuinely enthusiastic about every make over and his sass always makes me laugh. Who gave you permission to be so cute??

On the other hand he might really have been a sketchy liar. He told Antoni that he’d never cooked a thing in his life, next minute we see him cooking alone and doing knife tricks. Some people just lie a lot . If that’s a form of mental illness fair enough. As for the rest, I like the first one and I liked the one with that Grizzly Adams type who was quite sexy after his makeover. Hated the trans one, too preachy and that scene where Tan “apologises” for not understanding trans... yuk. The one with the cheesy entertainer was just plain odd. That weird smile... creepy AF.

I genuinely don't know enough about mental illness but I seriously think his compulsive lying is just a part of a problem that looked like it ran a lot deeper than the edit of the show portrayed. That lie detector stuff was so stupid! I also agree the trans ep was very preachy but then again I did also learn a lot I didn't know before!

The one with the cheesy entertainer was just plain odd. That weird smile... creepy AF. I think any child that is home school has social issues. They miss out on so much by not interacting with people their own age and just dont get the life skills that they need to survive in the real world. Agree about that smile though....It all seemed a bit Norman Bates.
i wasnt convinced that he liked anything they really did for him. Even him going to live on his own isnt going to improve his social skills. His place was in the middle of nowhere and was just an old shack that had a makeover. Why didnt he go and live on a campus at the college?? His Godmother Lulu was a hoot though!

I couldn’t help wondering if his motive was to publicise the crowdfunding of his further medical treatment. It was mentioned repeatedly. But then again I’m cynical and suspicious.

Agree too about Karamo - I quite honestly don't know what he does? That's basically what everyone said about Jai too! I don't believe a clip of an SNL parody is online, but you get the gist here: snltranscripts.jt.org/03/03hqueer.phtml

Made the mistake of downloading 2 episodes to watch on a flight a couple of days ago. Genuinely had to wipe up a puddle of tears before I closed my tray table.

Weeeell there are tweets from viewers who've said they've donated after watching so I guess it didn't hurt!

I really like Karamo. He is really the “therapist” of the group and he’s really good at it.

It's good. The team are very likeable, however, I just find every episode is basically the same over and over.

I suppose they tried to open it out from the original “...for the straight guy” concept by making over anyone, male or female. But a format is a format so that’s what we get. The two Barbecue Sauce ladies in this series are adorable but I can5 help enjoying Jonathan going completely over the top camp with some scruffy bloke.
It’s totally emotionally manipulative, I have teared up at every single one of them. Highly enjoyable trash tv

I cried at the trailer last night so clearly I shall be watching this.
But what is going on with the grooming specialist’s facial hair? That nearly made me weep.

The Jones Sisters were just fabulous! That episode has been my favourite so far. I looked at their website and there is a 7-10 week wait for their bottled sauce. Good for them.
I love that Tan acknowledged that he gives everyone a French Tuck in their makeover and Karamo is still wearing bomber jackets.
I find Karamo the worst. Everything he says is cheesy and like he got it all from a fortune cookie

I always feel like Karamo has had a two hour crash course in each subject’s ‘issue’ and how to deal with it, including tips for handy exercises. Hey! let’s workshop isolation this afternoon! Problem: Man who is isolating himself Solution: Demonstrate physical isolation by building a wall with boxes Tips for this exercise: Get subject to label boxes with personal issues whilst building wall. Outcome: Invite subject to knock down wall as physical manifestation of resolution of problem.
Perhaps Kar got a book on psychology from Amazon and is working his way through the chapters.

The Japan mini series has been interesting. Soooooooo culturally different but fundamentally all the same issues and hang ups as us.
