Nicole Scherzinger should play Evita. Now I'm not suggesting that Nicole Scherzinger can't hold a tune well enough but wouldn't 'Evita' be a *teeny* bit out of her reach? To be fair, in 'Cats' with all of her trilling it took her about half an hour to get through 'Memory' and she only schlepped in for that one song. Can you imagine how long it would take her to warble through the whole of 'Evita'? They'd only be able to schedule in one performance a week. Check this out. It's without a doubt the best rendition I've ever heard of this song. No other Evita even comes close vocally. And she sure can act. She actually trained in musical theatre.

Nicole Scherzinger should play Evita. I've always said this! I had hopes it could happen like for the ENO or a huge revival but then the tour was announced and she wouldnt tour with it! I hope it still happens some day. But with her dropping out of Cats at the last moment, I fear it will take a long time before she does another musical, especially for ALW. He was pretty pissed.

I was thinking that Penelope Wilton would be great in a play like Driving Miss Daisy

it's probably too late now, but I wish Bernadette Peters would grace London with a musical.

Catherine Tyldslery (from Corrie fame) released an EP today and she sounds quite good. Love her in coronation street so I'd love to see her in a musical. Also like to see Katherine Kelly do a new show

I remember seeing Dustin Hoffman in the Merchant of Venice, Lauren Bacall in Sweet Bird of Youth and Elizabeth Taylor in Little Foxes at the Victoria Palace. Now those were the days!!!! I am just too old!!
Now I would just love to see Meryl Streep on stage........

Truth be completely told, I'd rather an unknown who have worked their way up from ensemble to lead than a celebrity casting anyday. Even though some of my favourite performances at the minute are celebrity driven ala Sheridan and Beverley, some of the best also come from unknowns who have worked their way up ala Andy Karl and Philippa Stefani!

I'd love to see Gemma Arteton do another musical because she hasn't done one since Made in Dagenham!

Has Kylie Minogue ever done a musical? I bet she'd be great!

Kylie is known for not being able to sing live (similarly to Britney) so I don't actually think she'd be great for a musical

Kylie is known for not being able to sing live (similarly to Britney) so I don't actually think she'd be great for a musical Kylie sings live at every performance. She has always done so in Australia. This is something she has carried on over here. Whilst miming may be acceptable in America or here, it is not in Australia. Anyone caught miming in Australia, regardless of who they are or how 'big' they are, will be named and shamed. Can't comment on Brittney.

She isn't known for miming at live shows, and believe me I've seen her four times and she sang live on every occasion. She can be forgetful of her own lyrics though. whilst I agree with Anthony, miming hasn't been seen as acceptable in this country in more recent years. Steps, for example, openly admitted to lip syncing sduring their tours in the nineties, but had to resort to actually singing live during their recent reunion tour, as it was (quite rightly so) no longer seen to be the done thing.

Kylie is known for not being able to sing live (similarly to Britney) so I don't actually think she'd be great for a musical I'm sorry but that just isn't true. Admittedly she isn't the world's best singer (and neither would she claim to be) but she does what she does incredibly well and over the years Kylie has built up rather a good reputation as a terrific live performer. Having seen her live in various formats over the years I can attest that she can absolutely sing live and do it very well. To compare her to Britney is actually insulting.

Does the 'celebrity' in the show make you want to go and see it? I know that there has been a rise in 'TV stars' and even Hollywood film stars treading the boards. Does this make people want to see productions that they normally wouldn't go and see? I am actually writing my dissertation on this very topic! If you would like to take part in my survey you can! Here is the link: goo.gl/forms/zpubo2ENvrO3h70m1It would be really interesting to know what theatregoers think about celebrities in theatre productions.

By the way - I am definitely going to see Sheridan Smith in Funny Girl. This is a production that I never would have gone to see if she wasn't in it.

Just filled it in. Good luck with the dissertation! I think it really depends on the celeb though. A celeb like Ruth Wilson going in to Hedda Gabler is a bit different than last year's Xfactor runner up or someone off of Made in Chelsea (although I have seen performers from these sorts of things give decent performances soo...). The way 'celebrity' is defined is key.

The way 'celebrity' is defined is key. Definitely agree with this. I like how plays now in London get huge names to appear in them but they aren't just any names they are really big actors who do the job extraordinary. It's so nice seeing a well known actor/actress in a good play. With musicals, you do get more "household" names but I agree I have seen performers from TV do a very good show and thing is around half the people they cast from TV have had some sort of training in MT beforehand anyway
