Looking for ideas for food tonight sometime between 5-7pm.
A caveat or two.. -£10 budget -West End-ish location (1m radius of Shaftsbury Av) -not the usual dirge burgers/mcdonalds/pret/tesco/etc -something a bit different
Any secrets or gems?

How fixed is the £10 budget? Do you mind going a pound or two over? My first thought was Bibimbap (https://bibimbapsoho.co.uk/) where you can get a bowl of bibimbap for around £9 or they do noodle dishes for a little less. It doesn't open until 6, but if you're in there bang on opening then you can be on your way within twenty minutes, easy.

I like Koshari Street on St Martin's Lane, Egyptian street food. The koshari is their main thing which is a pot with pasta, rice, lentils and topped with chickpeas and tomato sauce and can add a meat topping (£5-7).

Couple of buns from Bun House by the Prince Edward theatre? Think the cheapest ramen of Shoryu is about a tenner. On The Bab is great but usually very popular. Haven't been in a while but NY Fold did great big slice of pizza, two for eight quid or so and definitely enough for a meal.

£10 isn’t the absolute max @baemax Some interesting suggestions so far, thanks!

Yalla yalla, Lebanese Street food, just off Shaftesbury Ave. I expect you can get a dish for a tenner.

What about Cote. Several branches in westend and their pre theatre menu is about £14 for 3 courses of excellent food. One of my favourite pre theater eateries.

Are you on o2 or Three? o2 can get Pizza Express for £5 through the Priority app, Three can get pizza / pasta from Bella Italia or Burger from Café Rouge for £5 through the Wuntu app (and even some on for £3 in deal of the week!) I usually do Pizza Express if I want something a bit more than fast food but not too fancy!

Bancone on William IV Street. They make all their own pasta, mains less than a tenner. It’s preposterous that a little place like this just opened near Leicester Square. Baozi Inn on Newport Court does very authentic northern Chinese street food and is cheap as chips.

You can just about get a bowl of pasta or a pizza and a glass of wine for a tenner at Pollo on Old Compton St - might go up to £11 but not much more.

Flat iron gets you a steak and cup of salad for £10, ice cream cone on the way out too.

(1m radius of Shaftsbury Av) I'm just loving the adventurousness of being willing to venture up to one whole metre from Shaftesbury Avenue.

I second Cote. Slightly above budget but you have the option of several pre-theatre menus including the 'prestige' one which has some excellent options!

A day late, but I second the recommendation for Koshari Street.
For future reference, just about within your radius - I really like Pide on Charlotte Street (just around the corner from Goodge Street tube station). Excellent pide and lahmacun (basically Turkish pizzas), and bang on your budget.

A day late but you can almost certainly eat at Bai Wei on Little Newport Street for £10, if you drink tap water of course. Good, fiery Szechwan food. Sort of place where everything is brought at the same time and you are not allowed to dawdle for ten seconds after paying your bill.
You can get a pizza at Franco Manca by Russell Square tube for less than £10.

Keep them coming, been some great suggestions. I'm back down in the same situation twice in November, so always good to have recommended options, plus others here may benefit too!

What did you end up doing, OP? Went for the first suggestion after some wandering, Bibimbap. Watch your hands on the stone bowls! Would go back, but many other great suggestions here for next time.

Bump. Back in town. Thanks for the Koshari St recommendations. Great food, well priced and a steady stream of people in and out indicating a strong following.
Challenge reinitiated for tomorrow and with an expanded radius as I will have a chunk of time between Come From Away and Company.

Cote is one of my favourites, I can't understand why it's so cheap! Amazing food in a good atmosphere, have enjoyed this a few times before a show, especially when with my parents and/or grandparents.
A new one, a friend took me to the Big Easy, in-between Covent garden and Leicester sq- pretty much behind the Adelphi. get there before 6 (I got there at 5:45) and you are offered a lunch menu. I had an amazing Lobster Roll, Chips, salad and a frozen pinã colada for £10!! They had quite a good selection on the menu; burgers, sandwiches, steak, lobster mac and cheese!! It was lovely, nice atmosphere and good service. Then before 7pm is happy hour with drinks, numerous offers on- so I couldn't pass up the offer for a PINT of pinã colada for £5! It was gorgeous, could've drunk it all night long. Fair to say I was a little giggly during Company. Definitely going to return before Waitress in a few weeks!
