The playwright Stephen Jeffreys died last week. His plays include The Clink, Valued Friends and The Libertine. The latter was adapted to film starring Johnny Depp in the eponymous role. He encouraged and mentored most of the playwrights who passed through the Royal Court Theatre in the eighties, nineties and some the noughties and was much loved by that community. He is survived by his wife Annabel Arden and his two sons.
