I would just like to pay a small personal tribute to the actor Glynn Edwards who died recently at the age of 87. He did a great deal of TV work and was probably best known as the barman in 'Minder', but it was as one of the central characters in the stage musical 'Fings Ain't Wot They Used t'Be' that I first saw him in 1960.
'Fings' was a watershed theatrical experience for me with its brilliant score by Lionel Bart, direction by Joan Littlewood and cast including Miriam Karlin, Victor Spinetti, Wallace Eaton, Yootha Joyce, Toni Palmer, Barbara Windsor and Glynn.
Later, when I was playing sing-along piano in the bar at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, Glynn used to drop in occasionally and join in the informal entertainment. Off-stage he was very much the same character as he played on TV and was always friendly and jovial. A splendid man.

Loved Minder and to this day “her indoors” will shake her head when I express my admiration for a particularly fine culinary effort with “well superior nosebag, Tel.”
About 10 years before that I used to paddle around Trowlock Island Teddington in my canoe and a well meaning chap sitting in his garden deckchair with a can in hand, just taking in the rays, would always greet me. It was a fall off the chair moment when he turned up as Dave the barman.
Happy days and as you say , seemed a really nice guy. RIP

Ah yes, Mr. Snow. Trowlock Island.
Glynn's second wife was the actress and comedienne Christine Pilgrim with whom I did a lot of variety and music hall and we also braved her attempt at a solo career performing stand-up comedy at Working Men's Clubs and such venues which were usually hell on earth. I visited the house on Trowlock Island to visit Christine on several occasions after she and Glynn had spilt up and to get across to the island, which was in the Thames, one had to use one of those small floating pontoon ferries which had to be pulled across with a fixed chain. It was a rather frightening experience but I managed to survive my trips without falling in the river! Christine moved to Canada and I lost touch with her but she was a great performer.

Loved Minder, Loved Glyn Edwards, so feel totally gutted at this sad announcement.
Although to be fair, he had a solid 2 innings.
