As a rather late dicoverer of Jez Butterworth's plays, I'm doubly chuffed this morning as, after booking my Martin McDonagh tickets at the Bridge, I've got my tickets for Jerusalem at the Watermill next year! (It plays Thurs 21 June- Sat 21 July 2018 if any other Butterworth fans are interested.)

They have a whole farmyard full of birds down there... There's a few ruffled feathers about the casting apparently.

It was a slog to sit through the original production, without Rylance I'd think it would be unwatchable.

As discussed when you said this before, a play about Englishness has limited interest to some Scots.
The Watermill Theatre near Newbury is almost an ideal, site-specific location for this play!

Oh lovely. I've always wanted to see Jerusalem. It's only about an hour from Tel Aviv on the bus apparently.

I've seen an amateur production of Jerusalem. It does hold up without Rylance as Rooster, but seeing someone else in the role did give me a new appreciation for just how well Rylance played it. One to be cast very carefully, I reckon.

I believe it will star Ashton Kutcher . . .

Sorry HG but I've got you on ignore, however I can imagine what tedious old racist bullsh*t you've come out with.
...and if its the same old tired nonsense as last time, well where you live doesn't actually automatically have to reflect your nationality.

Wait can we get a double bill of Rooster played by Roosters and the RC Goat play?
I'll get my coat...

Fantastic news. I worry about the casting. Rylance's performance was outstanding, possibly the best performance b y a male actor I've ever seen.

Just noticed that Jasper Britton will be playing Rooster
Sad that I missed mark Rylance in the role but I have every confidence Jasper will give a sterling performance at least

I’m afraid I was completely underwhelmed by this production. The whole cast seemed to be out of their depth, and the leads (Jasper Britton who is unknown to me, and Peter Caulfield who I remembered as Herod in the Regent’s Park Superstar) simply lacked the charisma I’d anticipated after reading the play. (I didn’t see the original production.) Had high expectations, as I’ve never seen a dud at the Watermill, but a couple of minutes in and I knew it wasn’t going to do anything but disappoint. Annas said it was like watching an Am Dram show. I agreed...
