Just heard about this and was wondering has anyone seen it or planning to. Would love to see it and hope it does well and comes over to the UK at some point.

There are two TV promo performances they've done so far: McArthur Park and She Works Hard for the Money.
This looks brutally tacky. Yet we have tickets!

I’m definitely going to be booking for this as part of my NY trip in October. Could it be tacky? Definitely, but that is my last night in NY sorted and what a way to spend a Saturday night in NY!

I wonder based on these whether it will last until the autumn. Thankfully I haven’t booked for it yet. I think I’ll probably hang on and see what happens with it. |

I'm usually a sucker for these kind of shows, but this looks, from a trailer perspective, pretty crap. That said I'm happy to be proven wrong.

And much as I like her, LaChanze doesn't sound too great either. Poor thing, get out whilst you still can!

LaChanze is always worth watching - but that trailer is pretty awful and the reviews are dire.
Having said that, of course I want it to run long enough that the three Donna Summers in Summer can swap places with the three Chers in The Cher Show, so that Summer stars three actresses playing Cher playing Donna Summer and The Cher Show stars three actresses playing Donna Summer playing Cher.
And of course I want pro-shot footage of both. Universe, make it happen.

Last night in NY and being a Saturday night, what better way then have a big old sing along to a bit of Donna Summer. Having watched this tonight, I can firmly state that this is easily the jukebox musical with the worst plot line current running, but who cares? It’s a whole bag of fun non stop for around 100mins. There’s fabulous frocks, classic disco songs, great vocals by the ladies playing the 3 different versions of Donna, a fantastic sounding band and the show must have biggest set of disco balls either side of the Atlantic. I mean what more could you possibly want?
Sat in the back of the Mezz watching this, nobody was really here for the “plot”, all we wanted was the music, and once each song started, everyone, myself included got out of our seats dancing and singing along to those classics. To be honest, you could have done away with the backstory of Donna and just had a Thriller Live tribute concert style to it. You really do need to surrender yourself to the whole thing and just have a great time (Having plenty of alcohol preshow probably helps as well, as some of the theatre patrons around me certainly were not totally sober, but it all added to the fun of the night).
Vocally, I couldn’t fault the ladies as Donna through the ages. They got through each and every song without missing a note. For me, it was the youngest Donna actress, Storm Lever, that really surprised me. She really did have a fantastic voice.
What really did surprise me was how empty the Mezz section was for a Saturday night in a Broadway theatre. Even though I prebooked my ticket online, I could of easily have gone up to the box office 10mins before the show and got a ticket and probably saved myself a bit of money on the admin fees. Despite the large number of vacant seats, those of us who where there tonight definitely made enough noise to create a brilliant atmosphere.
Anyway, it was a great night out, where you can just forget about life’s problems and have a great time.

Saw this yesterday. The three lead females who played Donna through the different periods of her life were amazing - what voices! Not sure of the all female like chorus playing male figures though. Hm.... Anyway, as a new musical it’s a fun enough show added to the long and tedious list of jukebox musicals, the typical life bio meet amazing huge glitter balls and a one act show that was fun enough, but sadly failed to meet that epic Broadway standard expected. A entertaining average and 7/10 (the mezz wasn’t full)

Multiple closures like this are commonplace on Broadway, and less likely for us. Awards season tends to be a much bigger deal and shows don’t hang on for long, especially as there’s so much new material waiting in the wings. In comparison to us, New York is much more likely to take risks on new shows. To have these announcements so close to each other is dramatic for sure, though.
Burn This has also been announced for the Hudson theatre (current home of HoH).
