Using the Guardian's summary, this "bittersweet debut feature from Maysaloun Hamoud is a spiky treat, an empowering tale of three Palestinian women living in Tel Aviv, each fighting their own battles for independence and fulfilment" and, incidentally, a complete contrast to another current release, the big-budget Goodbye Christopher Robin, which I saw on the same day.
So not surprisingly this film was much more engaging and enjoyable - and has had better reviews; it's also receiving wider distribution in its second week (at least in the London area) than in the opening one, so maybe cinemas are responding to word-of-mouth. I'll stick my neck out and say I'm not sure it would appeal to men as much as women (though the audience at the packed screening I attended was mixed), but I'd recommend it, not least for a setting rarely seen in films shown in the UK.

You could have paired Goodbye Christopher Robin with mother! to see Domhnall Gleeson.

I could, had I (a) any wish to see Mother! and (b) any desire to see yet more of the imo already-over-exposed Mr Gleeson. Seriously, I realise it's probably coincidence; that films made some time apart may all bunch up at release time and that he's not the only person to whom this applies, but you'd think there were no other young, male actors available.

OMGosh. 'mother!' is just the most batsh*t crazy film I've seen in a long time. The Gleesons are great but Michelle Pfeiffer for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar though please. She's all kinds of amazing in it.
