Oh gosh, come on Bend It, make some changes and pull yourself together, this could be your moment! I have faith! At least it is only 14 performances so if it is crap, it won't be crap for long! But I hope they manage to make the needed changes from the London production to make it successful, including mainly some changes to the score.
Sidenote: that poster is awful!

I expect this is not yet a proper poster and these girls are just "placeholders" for whoever will be cast. Which will be interesting in itself as Austria is not exactly known for having a huge South Asian minority.

Some of the songs definitely need shortening but I hope it does well.

It was the (daft) title of the movie already, since Germans wouldn't understand the football term "bend it..." in this context while "kick" is for some reason also used in German football lingo.
Why they didn't just translate the whole title in that case is beyond me but Germans have always been great at coming up with ridiculous names for foreign movies.

My favourite translation of a movie title is The Hangover in French..."Very Bad Trip"

Germans have always been great at coming up with ridiculous names for foreign movies. I think that happens in all countries, viserys. "The Sound of Music" I think is "Smiles and Tears" in Spain, if I remember correctly? Yes! I saw it in Portugal and it was called Music in the Heart. (Música no Coraçao.) I think it's called something else in French as well.

Not exactly a huge South Asian minority on stage.

Dear Gods, I think this is really one of those that should be filed under "if you can't cast it properly, don't do it"

Jesus. Everyone complains about Sierra but has nothing to say about the casting choices here. OK.

I'm not sure what is there to say that hasn't been said? This is BS as much as Sierra's casting were BS. As is the casting in Kiss of the Spiderwpman at the Menier. Or the character from Strictly Ballroom. This kind of whitewashing and the dialogue around it isn't happening anywhere in Europe. The only reason Sierra's case took off is because the backlash came from America, and she basically listened to her American constituency. You guys need to catch up. Snap snap.

I second everything that has been said. This just looks so wrong.

I think you'll find this is a significant cultural moment, and that the Asian community will definitely get behind this.

"Kick It Like Beckham" just makes it sound like they're attempting to dodge copyright, such as the chap who opened a Portuguese chicken restaurant called Fernando's, or the Morrisingh's/Singhbury's supermarkets.

Kick it like Beckham is the official German title of the movie: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kick_it_like_BeckhamMost likely because the German verb "kicken" can be roughly translated to "to play football"

Looks a lot of fun and the songs work just as well in German as they do in English. There must be a fringe theatre somewhere that would take the German language production as-is, maybe with surtitles. And it's a benefit it doesn't need a lot of staging.
I'm sure there must be a way to make it actor-musician as well to cut the costs.
Only challenge I see is, if they transfer it to the UK, they'd have to cast at least one Asian person in it.
