I was very sad to hear that Saturday Review is to be axed and replaced by a Front Row Highlights edition on a Saturday.
I shall miss my Saturday arts fix both live and catching up with the podcast - now even better with the added other recommendations. Without it I would never have read Francis Spufford's marvellous Golden Hill.

I too am very sorry about this; what's more, I found out only yesterday from reading a newspaper article, so I feel the BBC have kept this very quiet - I wonder why!
I've loved it since it was called "Critics' Forum" and it has remained essentially the same programme though the guests became more diverse and the discussions sometimes less intellectual. Presumably the name change was for fear of deterring some listeners because of course people don't want to be challenged or made to think, do they? Whatever next?
Even though I'm usually out at the theatre on Saturdays, getting home and listening on iPlayer has been a happy feature of my Saturday evenings until now - RIP Saturday Review.

You could at least try to be polite about it.

I'll really miss this programme - even though I sometimes want to strangle the guests for their opinions. They've also cancelled 'Midweek' which I loved.

I'll miss this too - good, in depth conversations, often on things I probably wouldn't have thought or heard about otherwise - in particular the books they reviewed. Yes, it can get a bit Pseuds' Corner sometimes, but it's so rare to hear unapologetically intellectual discussion and I've always thought that's what R4 is for - not strung together snippets of repeats. I know we're all supposed to have short concentration spans now, but not R4 listeners, surely...

On the other hand ...
Front Row is almost the only non-news Radio 4 programme which isn't repeated.
Front Row will include more reviews in future.
Radio 4 has to save money!

Better ways to save money:
Ditch:
The Listening Project - boring beyond belief
Gardeners Question Time - irritating smugfest
The Kitchen Cabinet - totally up itself
The Infinite Monkey Cage - so unfunny
and...ANY programme that has Susan Calman on

The Kitchen Cabinet - totally up itself The Infinite Monkey Cage - so unfunny These already save money - Cheap studio discussions replacing feature programming, and they have gained regular repeat slots in the schedule. Saturday Review had no repeat.
