I know this is a bit cruel but some of the people who phone in to publish their shows on the break a leg section of EP on Sunday are truly awful. I understand they are amateur productions but some of the fake American accents are dreadful. And don't get me started on the ones that try to sing lines from the songs in the shows.

haha it is painful at times. God love Am-Dram community, because they have a lovely time and some of them do bloody great work. But for every great show there is a cringe fest granted. Which reminds me of my new favourite Tumblr prisdifficult.tumblr.com/ the best of the worst PR shots for shows...having spent a summer internship compiling a database of some theatre companies, I can vouch that this level of PR skill is not the reserve of Amdram companies. Let the record show I do have a lot of time for Amdram, and being an amateur in other areas (choirs for me) I'm well aware of my own cringey past mistakes. Luckily I never phoned EP to have it immortalised!

We are normally out and about in the car on a sunday when EP is on, my OH ALWAYS has to turn the radio on when break a legs come on. I can tolerate the accents, it's when they start singing, singing into a phone on a radio show is NOT a good promotional tool for ANY show!

She reminds me of my hilarious old great aunt who was perpetually at least three sherries down - and I mean that in a really good way!

Veering OT but she's announced more tour dates, despite being her 'final final' tour the other year

For me the break a legs are the highlight of the show. I do listen to Elaine's show and it can sometimes be meh and she plays ok songs but as soon as the break a legs come on it just makes me smile. Yes the accents can be bad and the singing cringey but that is why I love it. They also do follow the same routine (in an attempted American accent that sounds Welsh) hell why don't you come on down to easy street to check out the cornley polytechnic drama society production of Annie. This classic show has great songs a great cast of kids and a real life dog. So if it's not the hard knock life come on down and watch it as the sun will come out tommorow.

I have been banging on about this for years. The best I heard was a West Midlands "Curly" imploring us to witness the wind come sweeping down the plain at The West Bromwich Leisure Centre. "Awwee what a beautifuuul mourning"!!!
And the way they invite Elaine to join them. I have a vision of her sitting behind the mic swallowing her fist.

I've got a mate who is the most Brummie man on the planet, currently taking on Eddie in Blood Brothers...the Brumie/Scouse hybrid could be interesting!

I am an avid listener and listen to the same show 2/3 times on my commute or when I walk.
Thought the chap who advertised Dirty Rotten Scoundrels recently in his pigeon English was very good.

Has Blood Brothers ever been played by an am dram group? Or is your friend actually in the touring production?

One of my local groups did the non-musical version a few years back. I didn't see it myself but believe the NODA rep was fairly impressed.

It's the play version not musical my mate is in as well. Personally can't abide either version (Brummie accent or Scouse!) so I'll be respectfully declining an invite to this one.
