Now that we've reached saturation point with Zoe Wanamaker's voice in ads for Bisto, Credit Cards and pretty much everything else I'm beginning to wonder if it's actually her or some sort of clone.
Angela Griffin is also doing a radio ad campaign for British Gas featuring a damned penguin that sqwawks incessantly. It's on in EVERY Ad break on LBC to the point where I'd like to strangle the friggin' bird and Angela too.
Dont even get me started on James Corden and the We Buy Any Car campaign. Those are updated so often that he must be recording them in LA... assuming it's really him of course.
Joanna Lumley seems to have fallen out of favour, or the proceeds from the Ab Fab movie mean she can give her vocal chords a rest.
It must be very lucrative, possibly more so than proper acting. But going back to the clone point, can advertisers use impersonators if the "real thing" doesn't want to play ball or are too expensive? Is it legal to voiceover an advert with an imitation of a famous person's voice as long as their name isn't used?
Is it REALLY Zoe Wanamaker on the Bisto ads?

When I lived in Spain the bloke who dubbed JR in Dallas voiced just about every advert going and that seemed to be allowed!
But good question about using impersonators.
I thought it was Caroline Quentin who did everything! (Dunno about the Bisto ad though.)

I dunno about the Bisto ads but many actors have similar voices and yes, it does pay well.

I used to work with someone in a call centre who was also a voice artiste. She could be heard on campaigns for adverts for the likes of L'oreal but certainly wasn't the famous face fronting the campaign.

Luke Evans was the voice of Whiskers for a time as well as ASDA.

I've noticed from seeing ads for L'Oreal in various countries that they dub the famous person with a local voice.

Pretty sure most people in the UK know what Jennifer Anniston et al. sound like.

My mother in laws Westie used to go mad when Joanna Lumley's voice was on the television.
Didn't pay any attention at any other time and was not worried by dogs on the screen. But Lumley's voice on the tele and he would go soppy, make silly whining noises and role over on his back. Very funny
