for once absolutely spot on with their award of a special recognition nod to Richard Bullimore. Who he I hear most of you ask?
He the best production manager in the business and has been for a very long time.
His contribution to British theatre is extraordinary and thankfully is still ongoing. how fitting he has won a Larry as he was with the great Lord at the Old Vic and the south bank national theatre. he mounted many of Olivier's seminal productions before leaving to form The Production Office with Martin McCallum, who was later to become Managing Director for Cameron Mackintosh.
His credits are endless, they include original productions of Cats, Starlight Express, Wicked, The Woman In White, Crazy For You, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, She Loves Me, Fame, Evita, Chariots Of Fire, Carmen Jones to name but a few.
Most recently he has worked on Lend Me A Tenor - the musical, Strangers On A Train, Elf, A Chorus Line, Sinatra, All of the Matthew Bourne productions and so on and so on.
He has done a thousand tours of most of the above and equally as many one off events.
He is a monolith amongst us and we will probably never see the like again. he has done it all with the most amazing attention to detail and maintained an asset that has doubtlessly sustained him through this crazy business, his sense of humour. Capable of throwing the most spectacular wobbly one minute and then laughing like a drain the next.
Its fantastic that someone who has given so much but is probably known by so few has been acknowledged in this way.
We should all salute him and the decision to award him.

Yes. Nice for a production manager to get some recognition. Very much an unsung hero roll, and a thankless task trying to organise so many people and have the safety of the show on your shoulders. A good one can make a show work so, so much better.
