I saw this film yesterday, and absolutely felt the need to post about it. "I, Daniel Blake" is an absolute masterpiece of cinema - heartbreaking and moving, but also funny. It has stayed with me long after the end credits rolled, and it appears that it affected others in the same way. At the end, people were reluctant to move from their seats, and I heard a few audibly sobbing.
Yes, you can see the film's ending coming within the first 10 minutes, but that isn't the point. It is how the characters get there that truly matters.
My first Ken Loach film, but definitely not my last. Just go and see it!

I'm a big fan of Ken Loach and I would recommend you seek out more of his work, if you;ve never seen Cathy Come Home I'd start with that though words of warning be prepared to get very very angry and be in floods of tears, TV doesn't come any better.

I adored this film.
I saw them filming this locally to me and I work with food banks and local families myself so it really struck a chord with me and angered me. It made me want to storm parliament and demand change! I laughed. I cried.
Everyone with an interest in humanity needs to watch this film.

Funny - when I saw the trailer it looked like not-very-subtle polemic, and not entirely well acted polemic either. The main effect it had on me was to make me roll my eyes. But if people on here are saying different, maybe I'll give it a go...

No, jeanhunt, I hesitated to post but I do agree it has its faults. A review I read put it far better, but it's written in an unnecessarily manipulative and schematic way. I think the real situation is terrible enough without it being milked in this way and whilst I am sure the film does and will arouse outrage, I question how much good (if any) it will do. After all, look how many years it is since Cathy Come Home, and I remember the furore that provoked.
