The BFI has announced a season films based on Shakespeares works: Shakespeare On FilmI belong to the BFI, and while tickets there for the screenings attended by big name guests tend to go like gold-dust, I will be trying for tickets to the Richard III screening followed by Ian McKellen in conversation, also possibly the screening of The Hollow Crown - no mention of when the tickets go on sale (their March screenings go on sale next week, so I would have thought the first week in March for BFI members) Anyone else planning on going (there are also going to be screenings around Britain for those who can't make it into London)?

It sounds like there will be international programs as well, focusing on Richard III, if I read correctly. No specifics about where and when yet. I'm a little bit hopeful and excited about this! Thanks for the heads up!

There's also apparently going to be guided Shakespeare bus tours with Ian McKellen, but I doubt tickets for that will be available to the standard BFI members, let alone the general public.

Ian McKellen's Richard III is GREAT! I don't think its on DVD I did have it on video cassette. I think some of was filmed at Bankside? power station. Polanski's Macbeth is still excellent after 40? years I went on a talk by someone from the BFI years ago where it was compared with Orson Welles' Macbeth and Throne of Blood, the samurai Macbeth. I seemed to recall that Orson Welles had the cast talking in such strong Scottish accents that it had to be redubbed.
