On the basis of "most disappointing" I'd nominate Dial M For Mayhem, a touring production which I don't think has even been mentioned anywhere on the board. One of those instances when a play is so bad that you're embarrassed to be watching and sorry for the hard-working cast. I left at the interval and shudder to think of it now.

CofD was one of only a couple of AA's plays which was not premiered at Scarborough. The National gave AA a budget and scope unimaginable in his own town. He hated the movie adaption of the piece.
So did everyone else. They hired Michael Winner to direct it and he seemed to be under the impression it was a Carry On film. Not Jeremy Irons' finest hour. Or Anthony Hopkins.

Correction:- CofD did premiere at Scarborough - I was confusing it with A Small Family Business. But it was initially commissioned by the National, and was substantially expanded for the Olivier stage with many extra characters.

I saw a fair handful of awful productions at Riverside Studios, but they were all part of their WIP festival so I will give them a pass. Hide and Seek at Park Theatre was bafflingly awful, and Sappho at Southwark Playhouse was equally bad. Thankfully both short runs in small venues, so not too many people had to endure them.

War Horse was disappointing. People around me (in Wimbledon) enjoyed it, but it just did not connect with me as much as it obviously did them.
Shifters was also quite disappointing. I loved the cast but the story got a bit bloated and confusing at times. Not at all *bad* just not up to the standard I had expected based on the reviews I had sen. Just pure disappointment from that sense; it really dragged at unfortunate moments and felt sooooooooooo long because of it

The Duchess was the show I found the least to like in this year for sure.

For me the big disappointments were Lucy Kirkwood's The Human Body at the Donmar and Joe Penhall's The Constituent at the Old Vic. Both by playwrights who have done excellent work before, of course.

School for scandal - RSC. Went in with rock bottom expectations and came out disappointed.

I’m much more picky now what with the cost of tickets. So I'm happy to report no total duds. I agree the RSC SChool for Scandal missed the mark and Eurydice at Jermyn St was sixth form experimental.

In that case it’s been a year of non-stop flops. Agree this list is trying to be all things to all men, I don’t see how you can reasonably call Hills of California and about half the others legit flops.

I'm afraid A Chorus of Disapproval is simply not a good play. Amateur dramatics is an easy target, and this offered no depth or heartache. But oh I long for a suitably robust, raunchy Beggar's Opera - it's always been one of my favourite pieces.

I didn't see it but based on the first one, I'm surprised not to see Cluedo 2 here
