Hello Bit of an unusual question. My personal circumstances have changed, and I’m re-evaluating the corporate office lifestyle. I do love theatre, so I’ve been thinking about a FOH job. Would anyone be able to share roughly what they take home monthly in London, for theatre FOH? Similarly wondering if stage management would be fun. So any insights into this also appreciated  |

Front of house doesn't generally pay particularly well and is often done by students as a good way of seeing some theatre while earning a few quid.
Stage management is hard work and you'd need do undertake a significant amount of training first.
You can get an idea of salaries and the like looking at ArtsJobs.

So any insights into this also appreciated FOH jobs these days are around £12p/h and I’d say are on average 30 hours a week. FOH is a good gateway to other avenues in theatre so could be a good starting point |

I worked FOH jobs for nearly 6 years and if you work all 8 shows the take home is around £1200-£1300 a month after tax. Depending on the company you might get paid weekly which is around £350 a week, Which isn’t much considering you also have to live in London to work there. Also 6 days a week (all evenings and weekends) is really full on so you don’t end up having much of a social life. had a wonderful time doing it and had some amazing experiences but I definitely isn’t viable if it’s your only job and you need to pay rent and eat as well. But as others have said it’s a great gateway into other theatre jobs.

Not sure if it’s something you considered but Box Office may also be a viable option?
No degree needed and pays better than FOH. Also less antisocial hours.

I'm studying for a degree with the open university and i am really interested in trying to help with the technology side of things within theatre. Not sure what that could be yet or if its even possible. 😂
