The BBC Proms season 2024 runs at The Royal Albert Hall in London from Friday 19th July - Saturday 14th September.
Sadly no musicals again this year... but quite a lot alongside the traditional classical concerts for those who might be interested, including...
- Saturday 20th July: Everybody Dance! The Sound of Disco - Friday 2nd August: Sam Smith: In the Lonely Hour - Wednesday 14th August: Reel Change: Soundtracks at the Cutting Edge - Monday 26th August: Doctor Who (afternoon + evening) - Monday 2nd September: Ultra Lounge: Henry Mancini and Beyond - Wednesday 11th September: Symphony of Lungs: Florence + The Machine

Exciting. How do you know this? The programme is announced on Thursday, 25th April.
What opera is on this year?

Who else finds the TV coverage piss poor? What’s worse, is I don’t feel it’s going to get better any time soon, or even that that’s what they want. Just point the cameras at the stage and that should be it, we don’t need empty words before the music. If you can stand in a certain point in the arena, you should be able to stand at that same point in any other concert, I thought it was such a waste of space that last year they reduced the arena space by about 15-20 people for the sake of 3 minutes. WHY? Late Night proms. How did I know when I saw that the band Public Service Broadcasting had a prom, that I instantly thought it was going to be a late night one, when it didn’t mention it on the home page, and then I found out I was right? It’s like they think that if they have these groups on AT ALL they must be late nights, even though there must be fans of this music that don’t necessarily want to get back home after midnight. Same with composers like Glass and Reich, 9/10 performances of these works are late nights, so this is a deliberate choice. I really hope they play everything without stopping before the end this time. That horrible opera concert last year was embarrassing in that way. They obviously thought that composers don’t know what they’re doing when they wrote all that. Disrespectful. Just play what’s written down.

I joined the waiting room for this at about 7.30 am this morning. When random places were allocated at 9 am I was allocated a queue position of 13,000 and something. It took about an hour and three quarters for me to reach the front of the queue. Luckily the three proms I wanted tickets for weren't of the high demand variety (proms 21, 35 and 45) and my prom planner was processed without issue. Clearly the queue was lengthened by the sheer number of Florence and the Machine fans logging on. It wasn't that long before the message was coming up on my screen that tickets for that prom were selling fast and then sold out. Hope that others on here who were booking had a smooth experience.

Thanks to TallPaul for moving my post. I don't know why my search failed to show up the thread - I clearly looked in the wrong place!

I usually try to get to at least one prom each year. This time most of the ones that interested me were on dates I couldn't do so i thought I'd go for Sam Smith. Got a box seat for more than ive paid for anything at RAH ever but will hopefully be worth it!

fiyero I'm sure that that will feel like a proper occasion - and something you'll remember for many years to come. Quite often, splashing out in that way is well worth the investment.

I used to be lucky enough to work for a company who sponsored a box and got to go to a few things that the managers didn’t want first dibs on. Also got upgraded at the Earth Prom (though not until I’d already gone all the way to the top seats!) I am sure this will be quite the event!

Excellent first night...even with the predictable booking of Sandi Toksvig.
Was the Tom Service segment filmed in the Fortune Theatre?

Friends and i tried to get prom tickets yesterday for the disco prom. We all failed and so listened along at home instead.
Sounded great but very commerical. I thought we would have had a few obsure bits.
It will be televised later on.

We were at the John Wilson/ Sinfonia of London prom last night primarily for the opportunity to hear John Adams' Harmonielehre live. It takes quite a lot for me to go to the Albert Hall as it is a venue I really dislike, but I'm glad I went. A good programme and very good encores. The algorithm means that I am now getting adverts inviting me to see the same team perform the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein at the same venue next June. I guess it will sell out fairly quickly - there was hardly an empty seat last night

Does anyone know if they do returns? I really want to go to tonight’s sold out prom and missed out on proming tickets this morning. I have signed up to Twickets alerts who are the official resale agent, but is there any point in me going up to the venue this evening in the off chance the Box Office has some available?
Thanks
