What's a tradition if you don't continue it? Never too early to start the conversation. This time last year, Sunset Boulevard hadn't even been announced, although 3/4 Best Musical nominees had (including of course winner Operation Mincemeat which had already began previews)
New Musical It's gonna be a big year of British grassroots musical theatre vs big American imports. Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Babies, The Devil Wears Prada, Mean Girls, MJ, Why Am I So Single? Passing Strange, A Face in the Crowd, Opening Night (almost forgot this one already) Potentially: Shucked, Some Like It Hot
Musical Revival Hello, Dolly! Kiss Me, Kate, Fiddler on the Roof, Starlight Express, A Chorus Line Potentially: Oliver!
New Play Lots announced already. Slave Play, Between Riverside and Crazy, Skeleton Crew, The Hot Wing King and Giant are the ones which stand out to me at the moment.
Play Revival Another busy category, always. Shakespeare Rules? Players Kings, Romeo & Juliet. Also A View From the Bridge, Waiting for Godot, The Little Foxes. Anything else standing out?
I'm sure there will be many more productions announced before the ceremony, but it's already looking like another very busy year.

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), This was eligible for the 2024 awards so it won't be eligible again. I note that Kiln has dropped from paying the levy to allow it's productions to be eligible for the main category Olivier Awards, it will now be eligable for the Affiliate award.

One or both of the two Oedipuses could be good. I'm also looking forward to the NT's Grapes of Wrath, and David Oyelowo as Coriolanus.

When I was on the panel - a few years ago - the Kiln was affiliate and any transfers in the following year would've then been eligible for the main categories. I'm very suprised, therefore, that Two Strangers didn't pick up any nods!

I'm very suprised, therefore, that Two Strangers didn't pick up any nods! Begs the question: what should it have replaced? I think it's a better written musical than The Little Big Things, so I would've replaced it in the Best New Musical category (or added a fifth nomination, which has happened previously). Likewise I would've nominated Dujonna Gift, either as an additional nominee or replacing Natasha Hodgson I think (again, not sure why there can't be 5 nominees).

I'm all for Benjamin Button. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen, in so many ways. Whoever plays the tile role should have a good shot at the best actor nomination.

It's time for Jamie Parker to get another Olivier, partially because SOLT needs to rectify not giving him one for NTN.

And after wins the past couple of years for very Brit-centric shows that (imoho) were nowhere near as outstanding as Bway imports THE BAND'S VISIT and NEXT TO NORMAL, it might be nice to see them be less predictable when handing out the honours. I cringe every year in memory of them honouring such crap as RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET and SUNNY AFTERNOON. There. I said it.
