Thoughts on the trailer?
Despite what the director says, it certainly looks like a musical!!
Love the final shot!

This looks incredible, i think the juxtaposition of the macabre with the musical aspect will be superb. I loveeee Gaga regardless and know she’s a phenomenal actress with a musical theatre background too.

Gaga as Harley Quinn is inspired casting but Harley is fascinating as a character because she was not created in the comics, she created for Batman: The Animated Series and she became so popular she was added to the comics a few years after her debut.

A new trailer released today: a bit more musical than the previous trailer but it’s still not looking like a tribute to Sondheim shall we say 🤣

I’m going to see this on Saturday night, can we have title of this thread changed to Joker: Folie A Deux? Joker 2 sounds like some lazy 80s bargain bin rip off.

Early chat on Twitter (what I'm seeing anyway) is that this is awful. However, if this is chat from bros who loved the first for just being a poor derivative of Taxi Driver, then it might just mean that I like it!

Just back from seeing this. A real slog. The dumbest kind of jukebox musical without actually wanting to be a musical at all. Style over substance. Every time the narrative threatened to get interesting, another half baked number came along. Really quite rubbish. Makes the first Joker look like the masterpiece that a lot of people thought it was (I wasn't one of them at the time).

Just thought I'd drop this here because this made me laugh out loud when I read it initially
"It's not a musical. It's a film with people singing when their emotions get too much. And when they get even further than singing, they dance! Ain't that crazy?"
Mr. Ashman and Mr. Fosse are rolling their eyes somewhere.

Yeah I already knew Todd Phillips was a hack but when I first read this quote my opinion of him shot down even lower somehow. Oh I'm sorry Mr. Phillips your film isn't a musical because it does what musicals have been designed to do for near enough a century now? You just know this was his vain attempt to convince musical-haters that they can see his movie because it's not *really* a musical.

A musical made by someone who appears to be embarrassed to be making a musical is never going to work.
I always thought there was a disconnect, since seeing the ‘Send In The Clowns’ scene in the first film. No actual musical lover would pick that song for that scene.
