Has anyone seen this?
I am currently in Australia and started watching this last night. (I think) there are 14 episodes. I'm about half way through.
I have read the book about 10 years ago (brilliant! If you haven't, I would strongly recommend it) however what I kept asking myself throughout is why? Why create a 14 episode television series when there has already been a movie with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess?
I am not complaining- this is beautifully shot and (from what I've seen so far) the scenes in Rome and Greece are breathtaking.
Both Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod are great as Dexter and Emma- in fact, in my opinion, Leo Woodall is better as Dexter than Jim Sturgess was in the film- but again, why?
Why remake what as a perfectly good film into a TV mini-series? And 14 episodes is quite a commitment- even to binge.
I am very curious.

I loved this, started yesterday and ended up binging rest of it today. I think its loads better than the movie. The episodic nature of a TV series really works for the story, much better than a movie format. The movie was 13 years ago and isn't that well liked so it's not that surprising they did a TV series.
Leo Woodall is excellent, been a fan since white lotus but he really excels in this, and is at times heartbreaking.
One of the best Netflix dramas for a long while

I agree, I think the episodic format works much better - and the fact that some episodes range from 19 to 38 minutes echoes life, in that some years are important years when lots happens, and some years feel less significant. The film was largely regarded as a failure - it gets only 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. I've never seen it, largely because of the lousy reviews so I didn't want it to ruin my memories of the book. Only just started the TV series but it feels very honest in tone - these characters are my age, having graduated (from a Scottish university) in 1988, and the filming and acting is so far very high quality.

Thanks for the recommendation. 5 episodes in and thoroughly enjoying it. Don't think of have given it a 2nd glance if it hadn't been posted on here.

Just talking to a friend about this series and she just blurted out the end. I'm on bloody episode 8 for gods sake!!!!!!

It’s bloody lovely. Such an easy watch and so perfectly done. I can’t bear for it to end.
…oh, and the music! It is literally my youth.

My one issue was that it didn't really seem to me like they aged. Yes their hairstyles and fashion changed (mainly Emma), but I'm not sure there were any other differences...

Finished it last night, what a lovely series. Really enjoyed it and loved the 30 minute episodes meaning I could watch one in-between gaps in my normal TV viewing.

I was originally drawn to this because of Ambika Mod who I thought gave an outstanding nuanced performance in This is Going to Hurt. She turns in another great performance here and I can really see her carving out a long career in acting (I think she started in stand up?).
Easy to get through with short episodes but packed full of emotion and a few hard hitting realities about the fragility of life and the decisions we make. Hit a bit close to home for me in some parts and really had a lasting impact. I grew up in the 90s and loved the soundtrack too. Took me right back to my early years!

Just finished the series.
The last three episodes; wow! I feel emotionally drained!
They loved each other so much!
