Just a quick thing to say happy Pride to everyone on this Forum! Whether part of the LGBT+ spectrum, as I know alot of us are, or a friend of an LGBT+ person, I wish you nothing but love!  And those in London today, please be safe and have a fabulous time! |

Happy pride to everyone. I was lucky enough to be in Trafalgar Square for the amazing Kinky Boots performance. The crowd loved them, shame they had to go on so early as it is a 2 show day. Just sitting down after watching the whole parade go through (my first time for that bit) before I'm off to Drury Lane for Charlie (not the one from Kinky Boots though!)

I bumped into loads of the drag queens walking back to the Adelphi after the performance and said congrats! I am sad I missed it, train problems! Now off to Funny Girl, glad you had a great day! |

The most moving thing I saw today was not a play, but two guys holding hands with signs saying "muslim and proud to be gay." There are so many cranks in the world who might take offense to that that I was bowled over how brave they are, and I teared up right away.

I actually got quite choked up too today, but not in the same circumstance (though that is a lovely thing and I am so proud of them!) but the reason I got quite emotional was seeing the amount of children about, wearing rainbow colours with their parents both straight and gay and just having a lovely day and watching the parade, not caring about the different types of people around them from men and women to drag queens and celebrities! |

The great thing about Pride it is just a commercial venture now, where people have a good day out, it's about the pink pound, which goes into many businesses around London, whether couple go into a restaurant afterwards, then catch a show, I guess once it was about protest?
What I am trying to say is that if London didn't have Pride the London economy would feel the pinch and it's nothing more about like minded people just rocking up and having a good time.
I think for obvious reason I prefer to be at Pride than Glastonbury.

I do wish Manchester would do what London does and drop the hideous "Big Weekend" concept which puts up a wall around the village then charges £25 to get in to people who have been supporting LGBT businesses for the other 51 weeks of the year. It doesn't even have LGBT in the title. An absolute disgrace.

I was stewarding round Soho for 6 hours yesterday - and it was a great atmosphere. A few issues - of course, there will always be. But it was great to see so many police out and about - all enjoying the day and being a positive, supportive presence.
A very positive day - and if you want to be part of it, volunteer - you will have a great time.

I have done it three times - once as a parade steward, last year in the control room and yesterday working in Business Liaison round Soho (making sure the bars and restaurants were abiding by the rules - which they were on the whole) Other roles include fund-raising (if you like shaking a bucket and asking for cash!), working around Trafalgar Square and the main stage (highly prized), registration (where you help track the volunteers and make sure they have everything they need) Lots and lots of options - much depends on what you fancy doing. But it is worth it. |
