But despite its ‘modern tendencies’, I didn’t see an awful lot of obvious symbolism in Lloyds ‘Sunset’, more just a different way of telling the story. I’m sorry if you read it as sneering; it’s more just continued frustration at people bashing it for the sake of it not being what they wanted.

Honestly this is going to be interesting on a lot of levels - to see how the Australian production is received critically and by audiences and comparing it with the London and Broadway run to come of Lloyd's version. As one whos love of the show can't be questioned, I felt with the 2017 "revival" with Close that might be the last time I ever saw a full-scale production of this on Broadway. It did good business, but even with a Movie star having won the Tony for the original and the symphony orchestra, it wasn't the sell out I hoped/expected. My fear was that it would be too expensive and story wise the show was dated for modern audiences. The Lloyd revival obviously went in a different direction and thrived in UK. Will see what happens here in the US.
The Australian production looks to be going the more original/traditional route with a star with huge following/name recognition. Really eager to see how it fares.

Or the flipside, people seeing it as a bit of an emperors new clothes situation. But let's face it there are two shows there is no point critiquing on this forum, the Cabaret and sunset revivals. The gate keeping is insane on both. Anyway looking forward to reports on this sunset. The set and styling certainly looks on point. Sarah is my big question mark

Or the flipside, people seeing it as a bit of an emperors new clothes situation. But let's face it there are two shows there is no point critiquing on this forum, the Cabaret and sunset revivals. The gate keeping is insane on both. Anyway looking forward to reports on this sunset. The set and styling certainly looks on point. Sarah is my big question mark I can’t believe the staircase is on the right #notmysunset 😂😂😂 But seriously, I totally respect peoples opinion & ‘right’ not to like it. What raised my hackles was Max thinking they’d hit upon the defining point of proof that they were right, like Poirot or something because a line of dialogue had been kept in that was not physically represented. The whole show was bonkers so looking for linear thinking was a none starter to me…is all. ❤️

Sarah is my big question mark I think that has been the case with Cabaret in the past but the liberties being taken with casting and prices now might be resulting in the worm turning a bit.

You've defensively projected that onto me, warding off the idea that anyone on this board can view something and question or ask about its reasoning for fear of being accused of 'deducing in public'. If so - what's the point of the board even existing? I asked a genuine question about whether a line of dialogue was in or out, because I couldn't remember. If someone had said 'no they cut the organ line' that would have been interesting to me, in thinking about Lloyd's scheme and his considered choices. Just as someone on this board said they thought it was right that 'The Lady's Paying' was cut because others wouldn't be let into Norma's world in Lloyd's vision of the characters and piece. In that instance a strong logical reasoning behind cuts and changes was put forward - so apparently deducing is allowed after all. Willingness to leave a non sequitur (IF that's what happened) was interesting to me after a comment sparked by the Australian production apparently having more verisimilitude with 'real' old Hollywood and what that can offer or restrict in interpretation now there's been a radical version.

No turbans, but great styling. It reminded me of ALW (ages ago) saying Sarah Brightman looked like English film actress Jessie Matthews, and brief talk of her doing a biopic. I just looked at Wikipedia and Jessie Matthews started in silent films. Brightman does have a look you can imagine in the silent movies, and she works it in that video.

I do think the idea of a relationship between this Norma and Joe seems believable. She’s an attractive woman and he doesn’t look completely wet behind the ears so yeah… why not. I hope she goes full Monty with the acting. Really chew the scenery. Come on Sarah, give the punters what they want.
