Opened this thread expecting it to be about trying to get out of jury service because of pre-booked matinée commitments. (I wonder if you can?)

I've done it twice now, very boring whilst waiting to get on a trial but at least it's 2 weeks off work. Only time I managed to get out of jury service was when I was called up whilst working abroad. They decided that the cost of flights and accommodation was not worth it.

I have to say this is one of the best TV shows I have watched in a very long time. Such a clever concept but so very funny, you fall in love with all the characters and Ronald too. I also watched it immediately after reading a book about Mike Leigh so found it quite funny thinking of those long improvisation sessions as the actors having no real clue where it would lead.

I have never been called up for jury duty in this country. I have in Australia, twice.
Despite turning up on each occasion, the first was settled out of court and we were left just watching television whilst the negotiations took place.
The second time, when it looked like I might be called up, I told a little white lie. I explained the my cousin had been sent to prison that bit was true) and that this has caused great family distress and as a result I feel that I cannot be impartial (that bit wasn't true).
I am non-plussed that my cousin was sent to prison and whilst his incarceration did case some family distress, not to me personally.
All I know is at it worked and the judge bypassed me.
