I guess this is technically a play rather than a musical, and I can't find another thread on the Board.
We saw the matinee yesterday. Not seen a show in the round at the Union before but on the whole worked well with this production. Carly Thoms is the star of the show taking on the role of Little Voice. She switches effortlessly from Little Voice to full on diva and does great impersonations of Judy, Shirley etc. Charlotte Gorton as the mother is very in your face. There's no escaping her in this production when you are so close to the stage and she takes no prisoners when it comes to the self pity that she portrays throughout. We had a full house. Definitely worth a visit.

Agree - this is definitely worth a visit. Also kudos to Ken Christiansen (hottie) as Ray.
However, am I glad they are moving out of this space - the toilets were like something out of 'Trainspotting'!

I went to the matinee on Saturday and thought this was a marvellous strong play for 'The Union' to end on (before it moves across the road).
I loved the set and it being in the round (square) and the acting is first class

Just got back from seeing this tonight and I concur with everything you guys have said. Really great stuff. Thought Charlotte Gorton as the mother was in particular a force to be reckoned with. Definitely would recommend going if you can make it before it closes this Saturday

Just to say thank you once again to TheatreBoard for my prize of two tickets to The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which I saw last night and thoroughly enjoyed. It's not without its flaws - the first half is rather flimsy and overlong, and {Spoiler - click to view} Ray's character changes rather too quickly but the last 20 minutes or so majorly make up for that - stunning performances from all the cast. Only three more days, go see it!
