So Streisand has released her version of At The Ballet, featuring Ann Hathaway and Daisy Ridley (how on earth did she get on it??)
It all over the place.... the dialogue is clumsy and despite playing Sheila, Babs sings Maggie's big belt moment....
But for a real car crash, Julie Andrews' version is something else!!
Her 'vocal stylings' are very, very strange...

The thing about this music is that it's difficult to make it truly awful, because it is so, so beautiful. And because it's rarely performed out of context like this, it's also refreshing to hear a new version.
But: Version One- that dialogue is so bad. Just embarrassing. And why does Babs have to do her own thing near the end, when how it's written is clearly the best way to sing it? Version Two- I stopped it after 54 seconds. Stick to Maria and Poppins, Julie.
What is Version One taken from?
(I've a feeling this thread will be moved to somewhere else, but not sure where... Musicals? Performers?)

Streisand's version is from her new albumn featuring film stars/actors. There are some 'intersting' choices on it. I'm fascinated to hear her take on Fosca, from Passsion, singing Loving You. Though for some reason its now a duet with Patrick Wilson.
Whats with Julie Andrews doing all the swooping/sliding notes?? (why do people always call her by her full name??)
Yes i did wonder what thread to put this under too!

No one puts Babs in the corner. Wait until she's Mama Rose. I think there's a chance that Daisy could end up as her Gypsy or even June.... I hope this link works

Absolutely lovey version of this song, not to be a cliche but I am very much looking forward to Babs new album, no idea Daisy could sing and I agree that Anne steals the song (if only briefly!).
Not sure how many people watched 'Glee' but I wondered if you liked their version? I think Sarah Jessica Parker is suited to this song and was a great guest star on the show

NPR are currently streaming the entire Encore album for those who want a listen! I've just done so myself, it really is a beautiful album. Yes, it's cringe, there's some awful acting (looking at you Daisy Ridley) and what not, but this album is just so Barbra all over, and it sounds like an album she really wanted to make. Great singing partner choices (the Anthony Newley duet is quite emotional), really beautiful song choices - where else can we get different versions of songs from Passion and Road Show! - lush orchestrations (of course), FAB singing and every song is a mini-musical in itself, each with its cringey little scene which somehow isn't cringey at all - well, I was completely won over at least. I'm sure some will probably hate it! Barbra sounds fantastic and they haven't electronically played around with her voice too much. She's a little raspy at the top and she's working with it! A wonderful afternoon of listening. www.npr.org/2016/08/18/490258191/first-listen-barbra-streisand-encore?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social

Anyone thinking about getting the digital version of the album bear in mind you'll only get 10 tracks. The CD has four bonus tracks.
