And Ben Platt, who plays PARADE, he gave everything
It's looking pretty good and apparently Ben Platt remains on stage throughout the intermission.
For me, Parade is on of the bestow the modern musicals.
I've been saying it for years but will continue to do so until it happens- Parade is a movie musical waiting to happen.

Do we think this has any chance of a Broadway transfer a la INTO THE WOODS? I'm thinking of possibly making a trip to New York next year to see the SWEENEY TODD revival, and it would be ideal if this transferred for then. I've never seen a production of PARADE, but I love it! One of JRB's best scores alongside THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY.

The reviews are mixed as are the rumors it will transfer. Those who say it will are suggesting a very limited run.

It's a show that deserves attention, but it's never going to be a crowd pleaser. And it's one of the lead roles where Ben would be perfectly cast as long as he sings it in the style in which it's written.

I saw the show with Bertie Carvel in the lead at The Donmar some years ago. I thought it was brilliant at the time and very moving. His performance was absolutely outstanding.
Looking at some clips of Ben Platt playing Leo Frank made my toes curl. I don’t think he has the acting chops to pull off such a complex role and what I saw looked perilously similar to his portrayal of Evan Hansen ( nervous twitchy acting). Also his vibrato in “It isn’t Over’ needed some work.
Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t get the fuss about him at all and I felt similarly about Dear Evan Hansen (although Mike Faist was outstanding).
I think Parade had a pretty short run on Broadway the first time around and if it ends up back there I wouldn’t think be surprised if it went the same way, despite it being Jason Robert Brown’s most accomplished work in my opinion. The subject matter is a hard sell and I’m not sure how well it would sit with Ben Platt’s fan base from DEH.

Completely agree, loved the show at the donmar but don't rate Ben Platt at all and would avoid it with him in it.

And the transfer continues the recent trend of extremely high pricing out of the gate.

You can tell Ben Platt is really working on opening his eyes when he sings but it’s still distracting how much he closes them.

He is fine not amazing in the roll. Not sure why he was given the role. I know he is a tony winner

Without him in the role, it is unlikely the show would have transferred. Whether or not his star power brings in enough theatregoers for the show to do well financially remains to be seen, but he is the foundation upon which the show's hopes for success are built.

Got a gut feeling- at this stage there nothing to support this- again, just a gut feeling, this will be pro-shot.
