Brilliant choice - looks like OAT will hopefully restore their reputation after last year.

I like La Cage, but I've seen three different productions since 2000. I'm not ready for another.

If you saw the atrocious LB you’d understand. Fingers crossed they find their feet again, but I’ll be waiting for reviews first.

Legally Blonde was a horrid production. Fortunately the material was so strong that it still worked.

I dread to think how they might seek to make La Cage more 'relevant'
I can only hope they don't even try

Legally Blonde wasn't that bad. My friends and I all enjoyed it.
I thought Dalmations was great

The Menier's La Cage started brilliantly with Douglas Hodge and Philip Quast. It got considerably cheapened by the time John Barrowman and Graham Norton appeared (and subsequently Norton even admitted he should never have done it and he was awful)

It got considerably cheapened by the time John Barrowman and Graham Norton appeared (and subsequently Norton even admitted he should never have done it and he was awful) It was possibly the hammiest acting I've ever seen on the West End stage (most of the cast). The whole piece is a bit TOO "Broadway" for me.

Casting is absolutely key.
I saw the last major revival when Roger Allam and Philip Quast were Albin and Georges.
You need performers of that stature, experience and talent.
The later tour with John Partridge as Albin didn't work because he didn't have the right combination of skills.
It is not enough to sing the notes and say the words.

Part of the joy of La Cage is that it is such an old-fashioned, well made musical. The only thing innovative about it was that the main characters were gay. I really hope they don't do anything to mordernise or make it more relevant. It could be gorgeous if they put the St. Tropez promenade in a crescent behind the stage and let the club open out like a dolls house.

Not familiar with this so don't know how suited it is for Regents Park. Aslo not familiar with the TV show but could a Drag Race Queen be cast? Would not be surprised if they do so and that would attract a younger aucience.

There are very few UK Drag Race queens who are old enough for the part and those who are don't really fit.
Of all the DR queens, I would love to see Ginger Minj as Zsa-Zsa/Albin. Great voice. Can handle the acting side of things.

That would be a no for me also. Saw one of his cabaret shows years ago at the Menier and it was dreadful.
Finally enough there was a FB post recently asking what musical you would like to see revived and I said La Cage.

Can't we just have really strong actors as Albin and Georges and can we not try to update it?
Get solid, musical theatre names who will be excellent - this is one of the times I really just want a traditional production. No need to reinvent the wheel here.

Ooh I love La Cage, well the movie and the 2009 production, I saw it with John Barrowman and thought he was fantastic, not surprising as “I Am What I Am” has basically been his lifelong theme song.
I think we can fully expect that a real-life drag queen or possibly non-binary male performer is quite likely to be cast. Anything else would induce a backlash from certain quarters. As long as the actor can do the role I really don’t care that much and will remain open minded. I don’t know any of the “celebrity” drag queens, but are they generally people who can really act/sing, or just people who perform “as themselves”?

Would they consider Divina DiCampo after her Hedwig run maybe? Not sure what her reviews were like.

Divina was my first thought. She was amazing in Hedwig but not sure she'd be suited for Albin.
