She's another name who the theatre world think is MASSIVE but no-one outside of that world will have any idea who she is from just her name alone, regards of her awards. She's great but she's not a household name, and the Palladium is a big place to fill.

The only concert setlist I can find for her has WSS/musical stuff, some old standards and a bit of random Carrie Underwood.

I have never heard of her and think the Palladium is very ambitious.

The reason I'm going is because when I watched the Hamilton Pro-Shot for the first time. Every time she was on screen my eyes were glued to her.
Then she showed up in Schmigadoon which again she wowed me but this time it was her singing.
Then her Oscar winning performance in West Side Story floored me. I love the new West Side Story more than a lot of people and what she did with that already iconic role was just magical!
But yeah she's definitely not a huge name. Especially in the UK.

I thought about going, but when I looked the tickets were more expensive than Jeremy Jordan (£20 more for where I'd normally sit), and it just seems a bit much for a solo concert when I have no idea what to expect. Loads of availability left though, enough that I'm wondering whether it might have been an idea to do a smaller venue and test the waters a bit.

Slightly embarrassed to admit that even as a frequent theatre musicals goer and You Tube viewer I'd never heard of Ariana DeBose until last week so haven't booked.
I think this would have been a better fit at Cadogan Hall which sadly seems to have lost most of the one-off concert musicals and shows like this. Prices were barely half of what's charged at the Palladium, eg £45 for Sierra Boggess in December which I have booked.

Went to see her in concert last night at the Palladium.
That was one classy show. Great band, backing singers, dancers and fab lighting.
Ariana is quite tiny but what a voice and also great dancer. A real mix of songs both pop and MT. The MT numbers were wonderful as it wasn't just your usual stuff. Some lovely Sondheim, Kander and Ebb and a few "mash ups".
She ended the first half with a stunning version of McArthur Park and the 2nd half with West Side Story.
I didnt know much about her before and I've only seen her in Prom but after the concert I will be following her career closely.
My only minor gripe is that there was lots of motivational talk and preaching that seems so typical of American performers and it was a bit cringy.
Lots of people in the stalls who I think i should have known but didn't and lots of industry people.

Poor unfortunate souls combined with Ladies Who Lunch is something I never knew I needed. Was a bit nervous at first it would be too much pop music, but I feel like she balanced it out beautifully. I liked a lot of the stories she told but hammering home the 'message' got a bit cringe-worthy at points, didn't spoil from a great night though. You could tell she was nervous but she blew everyone in that audience away. I don't usually go to these concerts but after West Side Story and Hamilton, I had to for this one. Was not disappointed. |

Have to admit I had to Google Poor Unfortunate Soul when I got home as I had no idea where it came from.
Her MD (Ben) does amazing mash ups. He is also Jeremy Jordans MD and has done some amazing ones for him too.

Wow! I was not prepared for what I witnessed last night.
With a dazzling smile, this petite woman put on one of the most dynamic concerts I have seen in a long time, seamlessly crossing from modern pop to musical theatre songs.
The first I became aware of this woman was through the film The Prom, then the West Side Story re-make. It was only after that that I learnt that she was in the original Ensemble of Hamilton.
And she can really sing! Macarthur Park and the mash up of Poor Unfortunate Souls/The Ladies Who Lunch, personal highlights.
Chuck in a bit of Madonna's Vouge and Ray of Light, The Carpenters Close To You and ABBA's Waterloo and you've got an eclectic mix of songs that you're ever gonna get.
The Palladium was full. Lots of theatre lovies in the audience. At one point in the intermission Christian Bianco was standing in the row behind me.
She made everything- the singing and the vocal range, the choreography all look effortless!
I seriously underestimated her.
alec 10 if you had no ides where Poor Unfortunate Souks came from, why didn't you just ask me? I was sitting just next to you!

I am an American studying abroad in Italy this semester and this coincidentally fell on the one weekend I was visiting London. I don't know if I've ever been that lucky before. That was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Ariana is EVERYTHING. Of course she is INCREDIBLY talented, but what made the concert work so well was the twinkle in her eye, her smile, the way she just pulled you in and held you there. She is just a phenomenal showwoman.
It was informal and kind of unprofessional, but in the best way possible. I really felt like we were seeing the real Ari and that was the best part. it was a talking-heavy concert, but I didn't mind at all. I loved the stories and the laughs.
It was just a very special night.
