I saw understudy Stijn Proesmans as Judas and I thought he was great in the role. Many reviews have called out the lead Judas as the weak link of this cast so I feel like I dodged a bullet there.

It's doesn't all work however. This production focuses on Jesus verses the crowd. How can people collectively love a celebrity and then turn and hate them. However, Superstar is really Judas' story about his part in the downfall of Jesus. Judas was sadly sidelined here and frankly an afterthought both in direction and performance. Equally strange was the point when Judas sees Jesus after he has been beaten. At this point a loud Cockerel sound effect rang out. I still haven't worked out why. It sounds like the production has got its Disciples mixed up! It should be Peter hearing a cockerel, not Judas. |

With my limited Biblical knowledge this is still lost on me though! I've never seen JCS so I don't know how much it is featured as a plot point in the show. |
