I wonder if Giles indicates in his book how many performances he missed (short answer: LOADS) -- I know more people during his run as Aaron Burr who didn't see him it than did .... the wonderful Jam Westman, by contrast, was very reliable. I saw Giles 5 out of the 6 times I saw Hamilton that first year, so clearly your friends were just unlucky. Every performer misses shows, there is no need for a post as bitter as yours so long after the time in question.

Giles were really quite special as Burr.

They had added a cast screen In the bar area on the way to upper circle, I remember as it was landscape rather than portrait like the one near the box office. Shame if that is gone. Not sure which bar you mean, but you go in a different entrance now to the Upper Circle (up the side stairs). There was a screen in the bar by the Upper Circle but it was permanently set to show the merchandise for sale.

Not sure how to describe it but it was definitely used in Jan ‘20 as I have a picture: share.icloud.com/photos/08ckDm1wnjsmd5o5QajnM_4kA#Great_BritainA big bugbear of mine is not being able to see the cast board if you are in the upper sections of a theatre so a shame if that is now the case!

Thanks, I think that's the screen that was displaying merchandise, but it's hard to tell. There was another big fan of show next to me (on her 21st visit) and she'd hunted around for a cast board as well and couldn't find out. Hopefully it was just that they didn't display it due to the late cast changes. But if anyone attends in the Upper Circle soon, do please let us know what you find.

Just on way back from tonight’s show where the atmosphere was electric. The current cast is superb. Ava Brennan is the best Angelica London has had, in my opinion, and Trevor Dion Nicholas brought to house down after One Last Time. Amazing.

Did you take a photo of the cast board or know who the understudies were?

Not remotely bitter, just factual. The producers of the show were as agog at his attendance record as anyone. No one disputes the quality of the performance, which is a different matter altogether.

I haven’t asked the theatre/delfont site yet but thought there might be advice here. Has anyone exchanged tickets to another date for Hamilton? Not sure on the policy or how accommodating they are?

Yes; several times. There is a small fee (like £3 or something) but yes absolutely. Their mission has always been to keep tickets out of the touts hands.

I seem to recall that when Disney paid all that money to have Hamilton streamed online on Disney + that there was the intention of this being realised on DVD.
Does anyone know if this is still happening? And if so, when?

I was at the matinee today. It was my 10th visit to the show.
Karl and Simon were fantastic. I’ve seen many iterations of the male leads and this was my favourite by far I think.
I still got goosebumps.
I still cried.
By god it deserved its standing ovation.
It’s still looking good and fresh. Special shout the OG Kelly, absolutely bossing the choreo. Love that woman.

I've entered the Today Tix lottery for the first time, for the week after next.
Anyone have any idea if there is a set time each week the winners are revealed? I know you have a short window of an hour to claim your tickets if you win.

Cover-tastic today. Don’t know if Trevor is doing the Magic concert tomorrow so gets today off, but there were several covers on, depleting and meaning that the male ensemble didn’t shine quite as bright as normal. They have always been the tightest ensemble in the W/E before but bar one lad who was up to par, the rest were just a bit slack. Thankfully the ladies made up for it (Kelly Downing always reliably sharp and on point). Loved the new Angelica, and Karl Queensborough makes a great Hamilton. A full house today who literally roared after every song…so great to hear such enthusiasm, and loved my box experience. Fancy still being able to walk after 3 hours at the Victoria Palace? Its a Christmas miracle!!!

Saw this for the first time today after picking up £10 TodayTix front row lottery tickets - incredible value and it was amazing to be close to the action.
I thought the show was absolutely superb - and made me fall in love with theatre again after the pandemic. Wonderful choreography, great lyrics and a respectful audience - couldn’t hear a pin drop during the action and a total ovation at the end.
Karl Greensborough superb in titular role and we had Jay Perry on as Burr - I thought he was brilliant and I had no idea he was understudy until I checked website afterwards - I was sure that he was a principal. I found Waylon Jacobs a bit lacking in diction as Lafayette/Jefferson and found myself straining to hear a lot more.
Matthew Caputo really caught my eye in the ensemble - really charismatic with brilliant movement - looked like a star of the future

I watched Hamilton last night and obviously the cast has some significant illness or holiday as 5 principle characters were understudied/alternates. The characters out were Hamilton, Burr, Angelica, Washington and King George.
I don’t know if Tuesday night is the normal alternate night. We had Nuno Queimodo as Hamilton who was excellent and was filled with emotion making Hamilton seem lifelike unlike some portrayals. Jay Perry as Burr was the star of the night and he was perfect for the role with Lydia Frazer as Angelica taking one song to warm up then smashed Satisfied and the rest of the score. Also Aaron Lee Lambert has the perfect amount of gravitas and emotion. Peter Houston, second cover King George was struggling with the top note last night but picked up in the second note.
The audience around me seemed to agree that Sharon Rose as Eliza, like the majority of the cast was much better in Act 2 than Act 1. The ensemble works fire during the performance and stole moments frequently. The lyrics and lighting is really where the performance shines as there were some small sound and conductorial issues throughout. Also Emile Ruddock as Madison/Mulligan was absolutely fantastic with the other members of the ‘gang’ also being emotion filled and excellent showing contrast between their characters.
But the performance was still definitely 5 stars and special commendation to the cast with 5 understudies it must be an interesting experience.

Hello Hamilton fans or perhaps Hamilton antagonists! I would like to ask you a big favour. I am a student of Arts from the Czech Republic, and I am writing my MA thesis about the Hamilton phenomenon. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic I could not go to study in the United States and finish my research there. So, I created this questionnaire, and I am trying to finish it from home. Would you mind helping me and fill in what you think about the show and what does it mean for you? It takes approximately 15 minutes, and it is completely anonymous. It would honestly help me a lot. If you liked it, I would be grateful if you share it with your friends as well. Thank you kindly for helping me to finish my MA degree in Prague. The link: forms.gle/YEYTCPz5Ewpj6rzp8Take care! Best wishes and “that's an order from your commander,” Kristýna.

Bit of drama this afternoon that I was there to witness. Poor Simon-Anthony Rhoden hopped off stage during the final chorus of Wait For It; it looked like something in either his knee or ankle had popped. Hope he’s okay.
The show seems in great shape on the whole… of the newest additions, Ava Brennan and Trevor Dion Nicholas are definitely the standouts. Sharon Rose’s Eliza really grows through Act 2.

Giles Terera is back to play Burr through the start of February (aside from Thursdays, when Jay Perry will be on) to cover given Simon-Anthony Rhoden's injury. I never managed to catch him first time round, so might just be worth a return visit!

I might have to book return visit. I had the 3rd cover for Burr and he felt like the weak link especially with that particular role. He did warm up through out though.

Cancelled tonight - must have had some very late in the day Covid issues as only just announced! What I don’t get with Hamilton and the huge list of other musicals closed tonight due to Covid us how can they announce opening the following day? Wouldn’t the other cast members be close contacts and have to wait for PCRs?

Wouldn’t the other cast members be close contacts and have to wait for PCRs? Much better to wait, from their (business) point of view. If it CAN go ahead, great - no need to refund a full house. They don't want to cancel now only for tests to come back negative, having lost all that lovely revenue for no reason. Customer service is pretty low on commercial theatre's list of priorities. If they have to cancel at the last minute again, "that's just the way it is, in a pandemic".

I think rules are currently you have to lateral flow for seven days if you are a close contact, which I'm fairly sure all theatre shows are doing anyway. I suspect the cancellations are to allow a safety buffer to catch any other cast members, but also to rehearse in covers who may not have been been intended to go on for the missing role, or how to "cut" the show and combine parts to make it work.
