Anyone planning going to go to this year's LFF? I admit there's a few films I want to see like Empire of Light, Glass Onion and My Policeman plus the premieres of A Spy Among Friends and The English.
I am surprised Bros isn't at the LFF but perhaps it's because it only debuting in cinemas two weeks later.

I've never been while in London, although a couple years ago I did manage to catch a few things at the Broadway Cinema when I lived in Nottingham, but I'd like to see quite a few in the line up this year. Is it quite tricky to get tickets? Any tips on the booking process?

I'm wanting to go this year and have never been before. At the top of my list is Women Talking. I read the book just a few weeks ago and think it will make a superb film, so am very excited. Other films I am considering are Allelujah (Really enjoyed the play), The Eternal Daughter, Matilda, Mammals and The Son. How easy is booking when it all goes onsale?

Really depends on the venue, if you want to see quite a few things that may be popular I feel like the BFI Membership is worth having a look at, especially if you're looking at attending big gala nights like opening or closing.
A lot of the bigger movies are in the Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre which is a huge venue. You shouldn't have trouble getting tickets for the second showing - Usually the morning/afternoon after the gala night. Just be sure to be on the website the time tickets go on sale, September 13th at 10:00.
Anything else I can help with let me know!

I'll be spending half of the festival at home in Edinburgh. So I'll hopefully be catching Matilda, White Noise and The Good Nurse from the filmhouse. So far ones I can't wait for are The Whale, Triangle of Sadness, Empire of Light, The Banshees of Inisherin, Decision to Leave, GDT's Pinocchio and Knives Out 2. (With a few more I plan to see too) The Surprise Film usually delivers so will be attending that too. The lineup this year is really great and can't wait to attend my 3rd year of this festival

Knives out 2 is the exception with it being closing night, it has the gala showing at the Royal festival hall and then later on in the night its showing in a few different other cinemas but they're much smaller. Matilda has another showing in Royal Festival Hall at 11.45 Thursday 6th. Will be slightly less popular because there won't be any special guests. (But still try get tickets as soon as they go on sale)

Oh yeah most definitely, Edgar Wright showing up at the last showing of Last Night in Soho was a big surprise because it was his favourite theatre. Definitely won't happen for the majority of screenings after the first though.

This will be the first time in ten years I won’t be attending this (I will be out of the country for the duration) but looking through the festival programme there’s not much there I would be try to get tickets for: The Banshees Of Inisherin was the main one that stood out but that gets a general cinema release here a week or so after so I’ll wait, and The Whale and that was pretty much it for me.
Good luck to everyone getting tickets for what they want to see but the last couple of years have been a shambles, either the website repeatedly crashing or tickets to anything that anyone famous is likely to attend already gone by the time tickets go on sale to members, let alone the general public (and I wish they would go back to proper cinemas for screenings rather than the Royal Festival Hall, it’s dreadful to watch films there, especially if you’re sitting up in the balcony)

I have high hopes for this years booking process as it seemed like they enabled an actual queueing system that seemed to work about an hour booking opened. I do agree with the Royal Festival Hall complaint. I've heard they've had a couple more premiere's in there since so I'm hoping they'll address the sound and make it better. I didn't actually sit on the balcony last year but will keep that in mind whilst booking tickets

It's surprising they went with the Royal Festival Hall again as it's not designed for the cinema experience.

I've decided on what I'm gonna try and book for, but I wanted to know if people had experience with the 25 & under tickets? Sorry for all these questions haha I just want to be prepared for every eventuality because I've decided against buying a membership and I know how much of a mad dash it'll be to get tickets.
Is it quite competitive, like any more than just getting normal tickets? And when they say advance £5 tickets can be booked, that's still on the 13th September when general booking opens, right?
I'm also looking at the guidance on the website and a little confused about the wording. It says advance £5 tickets can be booked for all screenings at the Royal Festival Hall but then goes on to say that this includes Nanny, Pinocchio, The Swimmers, and The Inspection. Obviously "includes" suggests you can get tickets for more than just these films, but outside of maybe Pinocchio I can't imagine these are the most enticing examples of the kinds of films you can book for, so is there some kind of catch here that I'm missing or are there actually these advance tickets for every RFH showing (subject to availability of course) and they've just chosen a weird selection to advertise it?
Also, with the on-the-day tickets released at midnight, are those just released online as well then or is it an in-person thing? I can't imagine it's the latter with it opening at midnight but I just want to make sure. And that's for every cinema rather than just for the RFH right?
Thanks to anyone who can help, but if not I see All of Us on Saturday so I guess I can always stop in at the BFI and ask there.

Thanks to anyone who can help, but if not I see All of Us on Saturday so I guess I can always stop in at the BFI and ask there. I'd definitely sign up for the 25 and under account. Last year the "restricted seats" were £5 for 25 and under at every showing in RFH. so the first few rows, the back of these designated rows are a great bargain as they're not too bad, just a little more looking up. I've sat in row C and it wasn't awful (and I believe there was some in the balcony, but I was really not paying attention to those seats last year, if you are sitting there I hope you've got good eyesight... Or glasses) I'd imagine for most of the big premieres these will be few and far between, you'll definitely have more luck in the afternoon "day-after" showings. The films you listed will have way more £5 seats spread across the RFH. I can't remember how many or how sparse they were, but I got a great bargain in this offer seeing King Richard. Row T to be exact. Another thing to mention if you notice that a film isn't selling well at RFH they seem to sell more of these 25 and under seats in better seats. Keep an eye out for that, this'll probably be more likely in lesser known film premieres to fill seats or the earlier showings! I believe the on-the-day tickets will be released online, I don't ever remember them being at midnight before, I might've just not noticed? It was pretty random and a case of checking the website constantly during the festival. For these I specifically remember even the opening film "The Harder They Fall" having these tickets available, I never saw them in any other venue other than RFH. I was so desperate to see something at the odeon luxe but those screens are so small they never popped up again. They have fixed this (hopefully) this year as they're making use of both screens for showings quite close together. Definitely worth also asking whilst you're around BFI as they may have some better tips and tricks for you, these are just some of my experiences and most were during the member only period. With not having membership keep an eye out for emails about extra showings going on sale. These usually get announced a week or 2 after. I did the festival for the first time without membership and still got to see the movies I wanted to that year. This was even without having the massive Royal Festival Hall so you should be fine. Remember to also keep an eye on the movies that already say they're full, people are probably holding these tickets and may get released soon after. 2019 was very different though but I wish you all the best!

Thanks for all your help hades! I think the only gala/event screening I'm gonna try for is the secret film just in case it's something I'll regret missing (and I've never done any kind of Screen Unseen type of thing before so it'd be fun to give it a try), the other films with gala presentations I assume I'll have a better chance at if I go straight for the later showings. And if not I've got plenty of at least what I assume are less popular films I want to see as well so hopefully it works out.

Good luck with the secret film, hope it’s something you like: only time I’ve gone to that it was Birdman, I was initially disappointed because I’d been hoping for Inherent Vice but with hindsight Birdman was/is a much better film.

Judging by the BFI twitter they seemed to have improved the booking experience this year. 9:45 everyone on the website will be transferred to a waiting room and they'll use the queue system that they forgot to switch on until an hour after booking started last time. Good luck to everyone booking tickets tomorrow, hopefully I can get it done quickly so I can then go to bed after a long night shift.

Looks like instead of improving this year BFI have reached a new low!
"Message last updated: 11:48 Please accept our apologies but, due to technical difficulties, Members' booking for the BFI London Film Festival has been suspended to ensure that everyone has a fair chance at securing tickets. Once the issue has been rectified we will re-open Festival booking at a later time. We'll let you know when we will re-open booking in advance via email. We won't be re-opening bookings today."
Time to sleep, got Bugsy Malone booked for 19:00. What a disaster!
